*Where You Will Work   *

Freeport-McMoRan is a leading international metals company with global headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. Several hundred employees support our operations in accounting and finance, human resources, health and safety, information technology, planning, engineering, and more. Our hybrid internship program allows interns to work virtually as well as come together in person regularly at our Collaboration Hub in Phoenix and/or our site locations. Interns participating in our hybrid internship program will be expected to live within a reasonable commuting distance – 50 miles one-way – of the company’s corporate offices to ensure availability when meeting attendance/collaboration is needed. Interns living more than 50 miles away would be required to relocate and would be eligible for travel and housing assistance.

Description

Under general supervision, the Operational Excellence (OE) Intern participates in and supports corporate and site business optimization initiatives with substantial guidance and oversight. The OE Intern embraces change while acting as a supporter of and encourages & standardizes working with Agile principles, Lean methodologies or other optimization strategies in the organization and fosters the Freeport Edge way of working. Specific duties include:

  • Assist OE Facilitators, Coaches and Leaders to help build and support high performing agile teams with implementing agile values

  • Assist agile teams and/or OE projects/initiatives with virtual and in-person collaboration tools/techniques, gathering and analyzing information, formulating and testing hypotheses and developing and communicating recommendations

  • Help to monitor and document the health of agile teams leveraging OE assessments, health checks and by building site or functional team summary presentations demonstrating the team’s agile skill development and growth over time.

  • Learn and develop new problem-solving techniques including bottleneck analysis, root cause analysis, Lean management, design thinking concepts, etc

  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Full-time student currently enrolled at an accredited four-year university majoring in an appropriate Business discipline or closely related field; OR

  • Recent college graduate having graduated within 12 months prior to internship start date with a degree in Business, Communications, Engineering or closely related field

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Passionate problem solver who demonstrates a willing attitude in most all situations, advocates for the best possible solution

  • Good communicator with emerging ability to communicate complex messages

  • Emerging leadership skills

  • Challenger mindset and passion to challenge status quo to find new solutions and drive out of the box ideas - loves and embraces change especially in new and evolving environments

  • Believes in non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency and trust across the team

  • Passionate about understanding people / teams in various stages of Agile environment

  • Learns new skills quickly

  • Ability to receive and act on developmental feedback quickly

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master’s in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mining Engineering or related engineering field.

  • Currently or have completed Six Sigma or Lean Management certifications

Criteria/Conditions:

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

  • Must be able to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet time-sensitive deadlines

  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/ alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable state laws

Compensation:

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $25.75-$32.25/hour. Individual pay rates will be based on level of education and relevant experience.
