A Brief Overview The Senior Director of Nursing Operations is responsible for patient flow throughout the hospital in order to match nursing resources to patient needs, ensuring high quality patient care. The Senior Director works in collaboration with the Nursing Managers, Bed Management, Charge Nurses, Case Management and Physicians to deploy resources and ultimately increase patient flow efficiency. He/She relies on strong clinical knowledge while utilizing acuity and labor productivity systems to coordinate hospital-wide patient and staff placement activities. Responsible for direct management and competency assessment of Central Staffing Office department staff.

What you will do Clinical Excellence Match staffing resources to patient needs to ensure high quality patient care. Evaluate capacity trending and develop right-sized workforce to plan for various demands. Attend, actively participate and provide central staffing information in Bed Meetings. Develop and Manage various pool staff (RNs, NPs, Ancillary - IPCs, SNAs). Manage and fill Safety Observation Coverage with appropriate role depending on patient need. (Psych Care Specialist vs. Sitter) Track and Manage SWAT Nurse Utilization. Provide real time staffing decision support. Develop and maintain strong multi-disciplinary relationships in order to accurately assess clinical need and provide appropriate support. Understand and reinforce CHOP's safety, infection control and security practices. Participate in and require staff to participate in safety huddles. Foster team work and communication to minimize risk. Professional Engagement Positively and actively manage a diverse work team. Engage in ongoing workforce assessments and in capacity planning. In conjunction with Clinical Supervisor staff, assess current skill set of staff and identify gaps and needs for future growth. Create and maintain a workforce that promotes and supports diversity, strong communication and recognizes contributions of all. Participate actively with nursing leadership and shared governance. Acquire and maintain relevant certifications Advancing Practice Integrate trends in healthcare staffing into departmental planning. Ensure that all regulatory requirements for the office are met and maintained in an easily accessible area. Lifelong Learning and Innovation Research for innovative ideas in the market and apply to improve staffing resources. Participate in benchmarking opportunity with other healthcare organizations. Recognize the needs of the hospital and aligns ongoing educating and training to develop and enhance the skill set of staff in those identified areas. Utilize simulation and other key educational tools. Implement, maintain & update patient acuity systems to its fullest capabilities. Maintain & Update KRONOS system to its fullest capabilities. Financial Stewardship Provi e annual staffing plans for the business unit. Develop staffing matrix based on budget parameters for each nursing department. Assess and provide nursing unit managers to support decision making process. Perform sensitivity analysis to forecast cost effective staffing models. Provide recommendations based on historical staffing patterns and skill mix compared to benchmark data. Maximize system capabilities to provide real time information regarding staffing capacity, patient acuity, and financial implication of the entire nursing operations to minimize redundancy and increase productivity. Provide historical performance and forecast information to improve efficiencies and productivity of the unit management and roll up reports to all levels. Engage and support shared governance SPM council on cost saving ideas and implementation.Education Qualifications Bachelor's Degree Nursing Required Master's Degree  Required  Experience Qualifications At least eight (8) years progressive nursing experience Required Skills and Abilities Demonstrated effective communication skills with Physicians, Nurse Managers, Senior Leadership and all employees at all levels. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational and leadership skills. Ability to foster collaborative relationships, Prior experience with tracking data and management of departmental performance measures. Proficiency with computer applications; including email, outlook, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software, and demonstrated ability. Demonstrated ability to implement IT systems to support centralized staffing.
