DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: JOB DESCRIPTION The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for analyzing and evaluating balances that have accrued through an automated process in Peoplesoft to ensure they are adequate with respect to future liabilities related to assessments. In addition, the role will also be responsible to analyze balances for surcharge accounts to ensure that the balance has adequate support each quarter. The results of these analyses will be reported quarterly to our internal finance committee.

Major Job Objectives:  * Manage and maintain control over the accrued liabilities by conducting a detailed analysis to evaluate the adequacy of the balances on a quarterly basis for all writing companies.  * Assist with upload of accrual rates to PeopleSoft each month.  * Assist with analyzing any material changes in accrual rates and communicate those findings to manager when applicable.  * Contact State Government Affairs each quarter for information regarding any new insolvencies that could potentially result in Guaranty Fund assessments.  * Organize information for the quarterly financial meeting to discuss proposed changes to existing accrual account balances and coordinate the distribution of all supporting documentation & schedules for the meeting.  * Prepare & post necessary General Ledger journal entries if the recommended adjustments are authorized.  * Conduct research to provide answers to any accrual related inquiries from the Financial Compliance Unit, Internal Audit, and Price Waterhouse.  * Review reconciliation procedures under Sox control 4095 each quarter to ensure any needed changes are incorporated by the due date published by the Financial Control team.  * Ensure that quarterly reconciliations are entered into Blackline Reconciliation Tool on time and with all proper supporting documentation.  * Complete assigned quarterly surcharge account reconciliations in a timely manner.  * Prepare paid to billed analyses as appropriate for surcharges where required.  * Perform quarterly Sox control audit of large payments processed in the quarter to include a review of accrual rate calculations for the PBA & GF accrual process.

QUALIFICATIONS  * B.S. degree in finance or accounting  * 3 -- 5 years of experience in financial/accounting and/or insurance areas.  * Excellent communications skills to articulate viewpoints/positions to various levels of internal management.  * Excellent data analysis skills and effective problem-solving ability.  * Ability to work effectively on a team as well as individually to self-manage own processes.  * Experience with data mining/query applications, such as Cognos, Hyperion, Qlik, etc., is preferred.  * Advanced skill level in Excel is preferred.  * Experience with Peoplesoft Financials is preferred.
