Senior Director Product and Portfolio Strategy
As a Senior Director, Global Product and Portfolio Strategy, you will play a strategic role and be a key member of the Global Vaccines Commercial and Portfolio Strategy Team. This position reports to the Vice President Commercial and Portfolio Strategy within the broader Vaccines Global Product Strategy organization. Location is to be at one of the major GSK sites; Wavre, London, Philadelphia or Boston, with some flexibility in Europe or East Coast US on locations for the right candidate.
In this role, you need to bring exceptional strategic thinking and leadership skills, with the ability to synthesize complex and diverse information to craft clear, actionable strategic imperative that will drive long-term value for the Vaccines portfolio.
You will use your expertise with business-strategy development, business case generation, asset valuation and associated analytics and intelligence methodologies to ensure that we are designing and executing optimal commercial strategies for our products to add value to our portfolio. You will synthesize large amounts of data from multiple domains and translate this into a cogent analysis that leads to recommendations that will shape the future of our Vaccines business.
Spanning science, medical practice, competitive intelligence, strategy, marketing, corporate finance and early-stage investment, you will be responsible for using business cases to ensure alignment between key strategic levers e.g. the target vaccine profile (TVP), key claims, clinical development plans (CDP) and major internal and external risks, opportunities and uncertainties for our portfolio and target external assets.
In the role you will influence portfolio strategy development, proposing investments, both internal and external. You will be a key member of the teams that are responsible for product and strategy development, for championing investment projects and presenting the associated investment proposals at the Vaccines Research Unit Board, the Financial Review Committee (FRC) Pharma Investment Board (PIB).
From an asset perspective, you will be accountable for asset and disease area strategy business cases of new assets, ensuring that the business cases and investment strategies accurately, transparently and fully reflect internal and external data, assumptions, ambiguities, risks and opportunities.
You need to be fluent in the science behind the diseases and asserts, as well as having working knowledge of the development pathways to enable discussion and debate with relevant business partners, and to establish relationships with global key external experts and academic/community centers.
In this role you will be expected to:
At the Global Vaccines strategy level Contribute to the development of the Global Vaccines strategy via cross-functional collaboration Understand the macro factors affecting global vaccines market and scientific evolution Own and generate multifactorial analyses of the internal and external environments Give perspectives on the global vaccines market in significant detail and the levers that drive it Provide views on competitive forces and their relationship to GSK's pursuit of its vaccines strategy Understand key competitor strategies, programmes, and investments and be able to articulate how these may shape the marketplace and our position in it Have a deep understanding of the US vaccines market dynamics and market access environment Develop actionable recommendations grounded in robust analysis, balancing immediate goals with long-term enterprise priorities Work positively with many functions around the organisation in both global and key country teams
At the asset level Work closely with the Vice President, Commercial and Portfolio St ategy, to ensure alignment of asset-level strategies with broader portfolio objectives Critically evaluate the value and strategic alignment of programs under your/your team's remit and have the courage to recommend the discontinuation of those that fail to deliver value or meet portfolio objectives Develop robust, evidence-based global market and asset forecasts and valuations for internal early pipeline vaccines as they progress through development milestones and governance decision points Collaborate with R&D and Medical to design and refine medical and commercial strategies that and ensure alignment of Target Vaccine Profile (TVP) and clinical development plans (CDP). Define, structure, plan and commission market research required to answer questions not already addressed through internal knowledge and experience and/or secondary data sources, ensure all market insight activities are conducted in an ethical way and according to relevant Codes of Conduct. Provide market landscapes and therapy area overviews and situation analyses to support strategy and trade off decisions associated with investment proposals (internal and external). Critical to the success of this role is an ability to demonstrate the value of strong commercial partnership with R&D, Manufacturing and Medical organizations, whilst championing the need for patient and payer focus during early development. Effectively engage with global external experts and academic/community centers and lead advisory boards to gather insights and inform strategies, and to support BD initiatives.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications/experience: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Minimum degree level Business, Finance, Health Economics, Marketing, Science or equivalent. Considerable experience in healthcare, in pharmaceutical (medical or marketing background), management consultancy or financial institution. Experience of contributing to the development of product and/or portfolio strategies by analyzing complex data, identifying key insights, and supporting the alignment of cross-functional stakeholders around actionable recommendations. Proven application of high-quality strategic analytics and ability to provide insightful commercial and market analytics and intelligence. Proven ability in asset and portfolio forecasting and valuation. Demonstrate fluency in immunology, vaccinology, and related scientific disciplines, with the ability to engage meaningfully with R&D, Medical, and external scientific experts. Thorough understanding of the drug development and commercialization process. Experienced in a global matrix environment, able to drive impact across a range of functions, seniority, and geographical locations. Ability to lead the delivery of projects from end to end and take ownership and accountability for the deliverables. A proactive and strategic thinker who can work as a solo team member and also inspire, motivate, and influence diverse teams that are not direct reports. Act as a catalyst for change through strong business partnering. Ability to see the big picture and effectively prioritize short- and long-term objectives. Ability to challenge senior stakeholders and ask the right questions to achieve the optimal outcome. Excellent negotiation, decision making and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications/experience: MBA, PhD, MD preferred - postgraduate degrees in medicine and/or science and business/strategy. Field Experience, e.g. Sales, Market Access, MSL etc. Proven track record of developing and implementing clear, product
