Summary:
- The Senior BI Developer will be responsible for providing advanced data and analytics support to facilitate PennDnA decision making, operational efficiency, and research initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong proficiency in data analysis, database development, and BI tools, with a passion for leveraging data to drive insights and improvements. This position applies software engineering, systems engineering and dev-ops principles to design comprehensive solutions that meet organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
BI Solution Design and Development: Under direction of reporting leadership, aids in the design and development of scalable and high-performance business intelligence solutions to meet the needs of stakeholders across clinical, operational, and administrative domains. Utilize BI tools and technologies (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to create interactive and intuitive reports, dashboards, and data visualizations that enable users to derive actionable insights from complex healthcare data sets.
Data Modeling and Extraction: Design and develop complex data models and SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from disparate sources.
Performance Tuning: Act as subject matter expert to optimize SQL queries, data retrieval processes, and report rendering to improve the speed and efficiency of PennDnA’s BI solutions and ensure optimal performance for end-users.
Quality Assurance: Responsible for oversight and standardization of testing and validation of PennDnA’s BI solutions to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency of data and reports.
Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and deliver BI solutions that address their needs. Provide recommendations, technical expertise, and guidance to leadership, business users and team members.
Data Standards and Governance: Collaborate with data governance committees to establish and enforce BI standards, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of reports and underlying data models. Contribute to defining and maintaining sources of truth for critical metrics.
Data Security and Privacy: Ensure the confidentiality and security of data by complying with security and privacy measures. Adhere to HIPAA regulations and safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI) throughout the BI development lifecycle.
Continuous Improvement: Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in business intelligence, data modeling and analytics. Look for opportunities to optimize the team’s processes and workflows.

Education or Equivalent Experience:
Bachelor's degree. (Required)
4 + years of experience in business intelligence development, data modeling, and analytics, with significant experience in a healthcare or academic research environment. Proven track record of leading and executing moderately complex projects with minimal oversight. (Required)
Epic Cogito / Cogito Tools Administration, Epic Clarity Data Model, Epic Caboodle Data Model, SlicerDicer Custom Build Badge. (Preferred)
Skills/Abilities:
Subject Matter Expertise – Strong knowledge of SQL, SSRS, Power BI, Visual Studio, EPIC Clarity, Caboodle, or Cogito and related coding languages (Python, R, SQL.) Applies knowledge to solve problems and contribute ideas to team strategy.
Analytical thinking – Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex concepts to a diversity of stakeholders.
