1. Summary of Position:  (Brief description of overall responsibilities and function)

Responsibility for evaluating, in liaison with the Leonardo Helicopter Rotor Design and Development department, the AW609 Rotor System design to satisfy compliance with certification rules including static and fatigue strength criteria, responsibility to support production discrepancies on Final Assembly Line and Experimental Operation aircrafts.

1.Evaluate AW609 rotor system requirements, testing and analysis necessary to show compliance to certification rules.

2.Actively participate in ongoing development of rotor system (machined components, rotor controls, bearings, blades, installations and integration into the aircraft) to ensure optimal design for business, customer, and certification objectives, including producibility/sourcing, and weight improvement.

3.Produce high-quality deliverables including digital design data, test plans, test reports, stress reports, instrumentation requirements, interface requirements, material data, fatigue analysis/threat assessments, and configuration accountability.

4.Coordinate with global supply chain, AW609 Integrated Development Teams, Quality, and Operations to ensure alignment across physical, functional, and organizational interfaces.

5.Support production discrepancies on Final Assembly Line and Experimental Operation aircrafts.

6.Support flight testing telemetry

7.Provide the technical support to train the younger resources

*Qualifications for Position: *

*A. Education *BS degree in Engineering; MS degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

B. Experience

  1. Minimum four years of experience: 
  • with FEM analysis, preferably on both metal and composite components.
  • in evaluating the static and fatigue (safe life and damage tolerance) behaviour of a structural component.
  • in developing and supporting structural tests.
  • in supporting the design of a rotor system for developmental aircraft. 
  1. Minimum two years of experience in a technical organization for developmental aircraft and participating in transport-category certification programs.
  2. Work experience in defining the requirements and in following the full qualification of a vendor component (bearings, elastomeric components, others).

C. Competencies & Attributes

1.Very good understanding of rotor system installation design and analysis, tiltrotor design preferred, digital product definition using CATIA v5/v6.

2.Very good analytical and design skills. Knowledge of stress analysis methodologies, both static and fatigue (i.e. Mil-handbook, Bruhn, Roark, eterson, Nasgro, etc.). Knowledge of technology, in particular machining of metal components and composites fibers.

3.Very good knowledge of finite element methods (Hypermesh, Nastran and Abaqus preferred).

4.Good communication and presentation skills, ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization, ability to negotiate win-win solutions in the presence of conflict and ambiguity, and ability to be a persuasive advocate to internal and external customers.

5.Ability to independently work in parallel on multiple tasks.

6.Ability to work in team and across geographies.
