University of Pennsylvania Research Associate Position, Cardiovascular Medicine Division - Marie Guerraty, MD, PhD Laboratory in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Research Associate positions in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of mouse models of development and disease, cardiomyocyte biology, cell culture, molecular biology techniques, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree.
Responsibilities may include performing scientific experiments using the mouse as a model of development, pathology and injury and cardiomyocyte cell models, including human induced pluripotent stem cells differentiated into cardiomyocytes. The Research Associate (RA) will perform independent in vitro cell experiments and assist with mouse colony management and mouse experiments, perform molecular biology experiments to study various aspects of cardiomyocyte including, mechanisms of regulation of metabolism, heart disease, paracrine signaling to vascular cells, and gene regulation and chromatin interaction. The Research Associate will read and write manuscripts, assist with applications for external funding, and present their work at internal weekly lab meetings and external conferences.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to help drive research projects within the Marie Guerraty lab. He or she will work closely with technicians and collaborate with investigators within the Perelman School of Medicine and outside institutions. This position will provide candidates an opportunity to enhance their grant-writing and manuscript-writing skills and will allow candidates to gain experience providing mentorship to graduate students and managing teams.
