Job Title: Registrar

Entity: PMC

Department: Emergency Room Registration

Location: Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, 51 N 39th Street, Pennsylvania, Pa

Hours: Day hours part time

Summary:

The ED Registrar acts as the initial contact for patients and visitors to the Emergency Department. Registers patients in EPIC and/or EMTRAC systems. Securing signatures on consent, authorization and financial agreement forms. Validates patient insurance information and insures that billing information for technical and professional billing is complete and accurate.

Responsibilities:

  • Certified for Registration Database

  • Maintains clean efficient workstation

  • Maintains 95% accuracy with EPIC or EMTRAC registrations

  • Contacts external companies to verify patient’s employment and insurance information for Workmen’s Compensation cases, as required

  • Greets/receives patients and refers to triage

  • Obtain accurate demographic and insurance information, as well as verifying and validating insurance information

  • Generate medical record number and past medical record information for patient

  • Produces patient identification band

  • Proficient with downtime procedures

  • Periodically orients new personnel as required

  • Alerts management team to problems (i.e., mass casualties, etc)

  • Performs other duties in area of responsibility as assigned

  • Prepares chart and delivers to treatment area

  • Prepares shift report at end of each eight-hour shift to indicate any system outages, late arrivals or employee call outs

  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of managed care protocols and procedures

  • Completes verification of insurance via HDX, EVS and other insurance verification systems

  • Obtains all necessary authorizations and consents for treatment and billing

  • Collects co pays at time of service

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED (required)

  • Customer Service Experience (required)

  • Familiar with Medical Terminology (preferred)

  • 1 years of experience in a healthcare setting (preferred)

  • College degree (preferred)
