Summary At the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center, the Chief of Podiatry serves as a member of the organized medical staff and functions within the Medical Staff Bylaws and other rules and regulations of the Veterans Health Administration and the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center. The clinical privileges are established and approved through the Professional Standards Board at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center. Responsibilities Major duties include but are not limited to: Establish effective operational policies, procedures, methods, and work schedules to maintain access to timely care consistent with VHA goals. Work with other attending practitioners, students, and members of the team to facilitate a comprehensive and interdisciplinary team approach, reflecting the highest level of patient care Ensure that the members of the staff are appropriately qualified, properly licensed, clinically privileged and have their scope of practice and/or privileges delineated. Monitor, coordinate, facilitate and document training of health care professionals working in the Podiatry section. Ensure that all new and current non-practitioner, practitioner or other team members are fully oriented to regulations for timekeeping for part time, fee basis, and fulltime practitioners. Support medical equipment procurements and provide decision support for equipment and supply management in the Podiatry section to minimize excessive inventory and to minimize waste of resources. Ensure a safe environment for patients and employees by reviewing and evaluating incident and patient injury reports; identifying hazards to health and safety; making relevant recommendations to Chief of service and administration. Maintain effective liaison relationships with educational affiliates and referring facilities. Oversee Podiatry-specific time utilization to include appropriate prioritization of cases among all practitioners in Podiatry, manage prospective waiting times for procedures, and assure completion of practitioner documentation. Manage clinic utilization and practitioner/patient staffing; oversee clinical access clinics or other strategies such as evening and weekend clinic availability Coordinate assessment of patient complaints and service recovery efforts as well as coordination of Medical Advisory Opinions as needed. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. AND Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. AND Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
