NBC10 and Telemundo62 are looking for a collaborative, dynamic and creative leader who can effectively oversee the editorial coverage on multiple platforms. The Duopoly Executive Producer will make decisions for the NBC and Telemundo-owned stations in Philadelphia.

This position will be responsible for supervising the editorial content of newscasts, streaming and duopoly specials.

The candidate must have a critical combination of both excellent news judgement and communication skills, focusing on optimizing duopoly collaboration.

This position would report directly to the VP of News for NBC10 & Telemundo62.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the content and coverage decisions for NBC10 & T62 on linear and streaming channels in English and Spanish

  • Lead a team of Producers, Reporters, Photojournalists and Assignment Editors to gather news across the Delaware Valley 

  • Strong editorial judgment as well as the ability to respond and make decisions in a breaking news situation across multiple platforms

  • Use excellent news judgment to identify relevant and impactful stories for coverage

  • Works with production, IT, engineering and newsroom staff to ensure smooth and seamless show productions

  • Work closely with digital to implement a unified content strategy across all platforms

  •  Stay current with emerging trends and developments to continuously improve content quality

  • Plan and execute on project-based assignments across platforms, including linear and our streaming channels

  • Collaborates with newsroom leadership, other NBC Owned Television stations and NBC News for special events planning as well as day-to-day coverage

  • Communicates with news management and assignment desk personnel to shape newscasts and determine the composition and flow of all assigned platforms

  • Participates in the performance appraisal process for assigned editorial staff in conjunction with the VP of News for NBC10 & T62

  • Works with news leadership to ensure necessary training and coaching is provided for Producers

  • Participates in recruitment efforts and facilitates newsroom orientation of new employees when needed

  • Tracks market competitive trends, develops and implements show content and format changes, and articulates vision and strategy to employees

  • Works with Creative Services to craft promotions that attract a wide audience

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience working in news management or main show producing in a top 10 market

  • Minimum 7 years of newsroom newsgathering and/or production experience in top 20 market.

  • Experience in copyediting, producing and desktop editing

  • Experience selecting, managing, developing and motivating a team of experienced editorial news professionals.

Desired:

  • Proven experience as an executive producer or similar role in a newsroom environment.

  • Solid news judgment, strong writing and research skills

  • Proven strong journalistic leadership, with the ability to assign, direct and supervise broadcast and digital news coverage

  • Creative thinker who can generate innovative ideas and solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a staff effectively, solve problems, prioritize decisions, and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently in a fast paced, breaking news, environment

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

  • Familiarity with latest digital and social media platforms for news delivery is a plus

  • Experience in the Delaware Valley and familiarity with the audience and communities

  • Bilingual in English or Spanish

  • Ability to select, manage and develop strong editorial news professionals

  • Basic understanding and demonstration of editorial judgment and journalistic ethics in all platforms, including a current knowledge of laws of libel, slander and applicable FCC rules and regulations

  • Good collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels

  • Understanding of emerging news production techniques and technology, with a pioneering spirit with a desire learn emerging technologies and invent the future

  • Believes that teams are smarter and more dynamic together
