Job Description Summary
The Director of Campus Identification Services is responsible for overseeing the information systems, processes, applications, devices, technology infrastructure, and service providers related to campus identification services. This role includes managerial oversight of operations, staffing, and service delivery to the Penn community, as well as administrative duties such as strategic planning, policy development, budgeting, reporting, and communications.
The Director maintains relationships with various campus leaders, including those in Public Safety, Information Systems and Computing, and Finance, and ensures alignment with industry trends and guidelines, including data privacy and security, while evaluating and implementing emerging technologies like Mobile ID/digital credentials.

Job Responsibilities
Oversees the information systems and processes, applications, devices, technology infrastructure, and service providers associated with campus identification services.
Provides managerial oversight related to the effective operation, staffing, and delivery of services to the Penn community and other constituents.
Administrative stewardship responsibilities including strategic planning, policy development, budgeting, reporting, and effective internal/external communications with customers and stakeholders.
Maintains relationships with campus leaders in diverse areas across the University including, but not limited to, the following: the Division of Public Safety for access management; The Division of Information Systems and Computing for issues related to identity management; the Division of Finance, in the management of the PennCash Debit Program; and numerous departments and groups that rely upon the transactional services enabled by PennCard’s services.
Must keep current with industry trends and evaluate emerging technologies and formulate short and long-term plans to implement them as appropriate.
Ensures the department’s practices align with all applicable guidelines including data privacy, security, access & identity management.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, and 7 to 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
The Director must have demonstrable leadership experience and comfort with a role that requires diverse skill sets including strong technical aptitude, data management proficiency, and project management.
Understanding of identity data flows and processes, as well as interdependence between systems is critical.
In addition to excellent technical aptitude, the Director must possess the business acumen and interpersonal skills necessary to successfully execute the administrative responsibilities associated with the role.
Supervisory skills to manage IT professional staff as well as administrative and customer support staff is required.
Strong work autonomy, good judgement, and a collaborative working style are important attributes for the successful candidate to value and embody.
About PennCardThe PennCard is the official University of Pennsylvania identification card for students, faculty, staff, and other members of the Penn community. The PennCard is used for many activities including building access, recreation and library services, and PennCash purchases.
The PennCard office and its staff provide services that are considered essential to the University and occasionally operates on schedules that differ from ordinary University hours. Weekend, and evening hours may be required especially during certain high-traffic periods for the University, such as new student move-in.
