The role involves on-site presence for the first 6 months with the possibility of remote work after the introductory period is complete.

Summary:

The Business Intelligence (BI) Administrator is part of a team responsible for managing our BI platforms such as [SSRS, PowerBI, Cogito, RL, Midas etc.] ensuring their optimal performance, security, and alignment with organizational goals. This position involves overseeing multiple environments, performing upgrades, providing support to developers and business groups, and guiding the team and management with effective solutions for projects and technology deployments.

Responsibilities:

  • Platform Administration: Monitor and manage multiple BI environments [SSRS, PowerBI, Cogito, RL, Midas etc.] to ensure continuous system availability and optimal performance. Perform BI platform upgrades, ensuring that the platform is on a supported version and taking advantage of the latest features. Adhere to best practices as outlined by appropriate vendors (Microsoft, EPIC, etc.) Help define and measure KPIs and business impacts of upgrades and feature additions.

  • Support and Oversight: Provide support and oversight to developers and business stakeholders utilizing the BI platform [SSRS, PowerBI, Cogito, RL, Midas etc.]. Communicate with vendors to troubleshoot, as needed. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to BI tools, reports, and data queries.

  • Deployment Management: Perform code migration across environments, ensuring consistency and reliability in reporting and analytics. Coordinate with development teams to streamline the code promotion process.

  • Security: Implement and maintain robust security measures for the BI platform [SSRS, PowerBI, Cogito, RL, Midas etc.] to safeguard sensitive healthcare data. Ensure compliance with data security and healthcare privacy regulations. Conduct regular security audits and implement necessary enhancements.

  • Continuous Improvement: Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Look for opportunities to optimize BI platform processes, features, upgrades and workflows.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and develop solutions that meet organizational needs. Act as a subject matter expert, assisting in decision-making processes related to BI technologies.

  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree. (Required)

  • 2+ years of experience as a BI Administrator in a large academic health system or similar environment. Must be able to perform administration and upgrades of the BI platform [SSRS, PowerBI, Cogito, RL, Midas etc.] with minimal oversight.  Experience with deployment management, system upgrades, and security implementation. Proven track record of managing and executing projects with minimal oversight.  (Required)

  • Certification in BI tools or healthcare informatics. (Preferred)

Skills/Abilities:

  • Subject Matter Expertise –Proficiency with Power BI, EPIC Cogito tools, SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services), Midas, RL and SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) or similar platforms. A strong understanding of best practices and performance standards. Applies knowledge and experience to solve problems.

  • Analytical thinking – Excellent problem-solving abilities.

  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with a diversity of stakeholders.

  • Innovation - Applies creative approaches to problem solving and develops solutions to address issues. Flexible. Eager to learn new skills and technologies.

  • Healthcare Knowledge- Knowledge of healthcare data, regulations, compliance requirements, and data privacy standards.

  • Data Management Experience- Familiarity with data governance and data quality best practices.

  • Change Management Experience- Knowledge of Change Management best practices and process. Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and related changes related to a variety of audiences.
