McLaren Health Care Registered Nurse-Team Lead-Endoscopy - McLaren Careers in Petoskey, Michigan

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager Patient Care Services, the Team leader has shift responsibility for management/coordination of patient care provided by patient care team members. The Team Leader is responsible for delegating and overseeing functions performed by the following team members: Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Patient Care Technician, Patient Service Associate, and Health Unit Coordinator. The Team Leader collaborates with the Care Coordinator to ensure discharge needs are met.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Makes assignments and delegates care assignments according to knowledge and skills of team members and needs of the patients. Reassesses and redistributes team members as patient and unit needs change.

  • Coaches staff to deliver competent nursing care to assigned patients. Provides immediate “troubleshooting” for patient care issues and follow-up as indicated

  • Provides evaluation and collaboration of patient care delivery to achieve patient outcome goals and timely discharge.

  • Facilitates teamwork among all clinicians associated with patient care to expedite patient progress toward goal achievement and timely and appropriate discharge.

  • Monitors patient care delivery and unit processes for quality improvement opportunities and goals. Appropriately reports quality improvement issues. Uses the pathway acuity system to maintain staff productivity resulting in meeting the WHPPD targets set through benchmarks. Assumes a patient care assignment when the number and mix of patients and unit staff permit.

  • Completes other duties as listed in specific unit performance plan/Competency Based Objectives. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

  • Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.

  • Contributes to performance feedback, hiring decisions.

  • Ensures standards are met (quality, timeliness, customer service, etc.).

  • Evaluates and tests new procedures/processes.

  • Orients and/or trains new staff.

  • Problem solving capabilities.

  • Subject matter expert/technical leadership.

  • Work flow/distribution of work.

  • Assists in assuring compliance with all regulatory and other agency requirements, laws, and statutes pertaining to the operation of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.

  • Current license as an RN in the State of Michigan.

  • Two years of experience as an RN in an acute care setting.

  • ACLS certified within one year if working Cardiac Cath Lab, CVU, ICU, Emergency Dept., Nursing Resource Pool, Ambulatory Surgery or Surgical Services. Certifications (BLS, ACLS, ALS, PALS) must be issued directly by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent.

  • PALS certification is required within one year when working in Pediatrics or the Emergency Room. PALS certifications must be issued directly by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

  • Experience with a patient population where team lead will be done.
