Job Title: Industrial Forklift Operator

Job Description

As an Industrial Forklift Operator, you will be responsible for operating a heavy industrial forklift to transport steel materials such as beams, pipes, and plates within an indoor/outdoor steel distribution and manufacturing facility. Upon completion of initial training, you will spend most of your time learning material placement and operating the forklift. This role extends beyond just forklift operation, requiring you to be mobile for at least 50% of your shift, either locating materials or assisting crane operators. This role will also require you to perform housekeeping duties and be prepared to physically climb onto the backs of flatbed trailers if needed. Over time, you will learn to load flatbed trailers and railcars, manage inventory, move materials to loaders, fill out shipping reports, and document all outgoing loads. You will be expected to strictly adhere to all safety rules while working around flatbed trucks and railcar systems. Candidates should also be able to learn and retain information based on color as our inventory and coding systems are based on painted beam ends. You should have clear color vision and the ability to memorize locations and color systems.

Hard Skills

  • Forklift Operating -2-3 years

Job Type

This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 3 Month(s).

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Petersburg, Virginia.

Work Environment

The work environment is both indoor and outdoor, with steel materials stored both in the building and in two separate yards onsite. The environment can be very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. The work setting is more akin to a construction site than a standard manufacturing facility, surrounded by 200,000 square feet of steel beams. It requires wearing safety equipment like a hard hat, steel-toed boots, and safety vest.
