Job Title: Senior Engineering Project Team Leader

Salary/Grade: £73,440 - £100,000 (depending on experience)

Location : Peterborough

The opportunity

As the Senior Engineering Project Team Leader, you will gather and document critical customer requirements and influence the system architecture for the product lines being developed for electrification. You will have the unique opportunity to work across multiple divisions to help position Caterpillar’s emerging electrification strategy by helping define the architecture and interface requirements between the various systems resulting in offerings that will help our customers win.

This position requires excellent human relations, interpersonal, and communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive issues, persuade others on new technologies, new applications, or potential solutions.

What you will do:

  • Lead architecture design and implementation of key electric power train projects for targeted markets in Defense and Military, Marine, Industrial, Electric Power, and Oil and Gas applications.

  • Develop and communicate market segment application requirements to the product development teams (power conversion products, batteries, inverters, motors, etc.).

  • Develop product, internal and external requirements management, and cost-value management.

  • Utilize knowledge and understanding of multiple engineering teams, technologies, components, systems, products, and processes

  • Collaborate with a variety of internal customers (including manufacturing managers, product managers and new product introduction (NPI) managers) to make high level decisions impacting one or more products, processes, or facilities.

  • Utilize Lean Startup discipline to rapidly explore identification and development of sustainable products for electrification.

  • Experience with power electronics or electric machine design; electric drive systems design, modeling and/or simulation

  • Experience with electrification systems and components such as batteries, chargers, motor, inverters and energy storage systems.

  • Advises colleagues on implementation and operational considerations.

Product Design and Development:

Level Expert:

  • Previous experience leading product development and implementing new production methods for electrification and/or power electronics.

  • Advocates the development of new technologies and tools for product design and development.

  • Leads cross-functional teams assembled for the purpose of product design and development.

Influencing Through Expertise:

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Communicates complex ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner so that others can understand.

  • Ability to work alongside commercial and engineering teams, with strong communication, collaboration, negotiation & persuasion.

  • Exhibits depth and breadth of knowledge in electrification and/or power electronics

Requirements Analysis:

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Plays an active or leading role in recording and storing requirement documents in various forms.

  • Ensures the successful completion of all major activities, tasks and deliverables pertaining to the requirement analysis stage.

  • Supervises the advanced use of requirements analysis tools and services, including prototyping and use cases.

Project Management:

Level Expert:

  • Manages multiple high-risk, high-cost projects involving multiple stakeholders.

  • Coaches others in open communication among project stakeholders.

  • Consults on project planning and management of high-risk, high-impact projects.

Degree: Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related field)

Additional information:

  • This position may require up to 30% travel
