Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Endoscopy Tech at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Admits patients, checks for proper I.D. bracelet against papers, orients patient to the unit, and takes and records vital signs.
Participates in the plan of care for the patient in the Endoscopy Unit as directed by the R.N.
Observes and reports all unusual conditions, reactions and occurrences to the nurse in charge.
Assists physician with various procedures performed in Endoscopy.
Transfers patients to x-ray when necessary for procedure.
Orders food from Dietary when necessary and assists patients with meals as needed.
Accompanies patient to lobby upon discharge when necessary.
Refers all information or questions from patients and/or families to R.N.
Provides locker space for each patient's clothes and valuables.
Gives enemas as ordered by M.D. and under supervision of R.N.
Checks linen and CSR carts daily to insure that they have been stocked properly.
Cleans and remakes stretchers after use, prepares stretchers and general area for next day.
Schedules procedures for endoscopy leaving appropriate time for each patient.
Compiles endoscopy charts and assists with clerical responsibilities such as labeling charts.
Assists with patients' emergencies by obtaining emergency equipment and performing other duties as requested by the R.N. Has an awareness of emergency codes.
Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
A minimum of two years' experience as a nursing assistant or technician.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Graduate of approved Nurses Assistant Program.
