CITY OF PERRY Utility Mechanic I in PERRY, Florida
This position requires skilled work in the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of the city's waste treatment plant and collection system. Responsible for assigned tasks involving the application of trade procedures to the construction, maintenance and repair of sewer lines and wastewater facilities. Work orders are both oral and written, sometimes by sketches. Required to perform periodic standby for emergency calls and service after regular hours and holidays. Minimum Requirements:
Must have a High School Diploma or Equlvalency and valid Florida Driver's License and be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months of employment. Must have class "C" Wastewater Collection Technician Certification within one year after employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of methods, techniques and materials used in construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of a wastewater system. Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions. Ability to follow oral or written instructions and to work independently of detailed supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations and in adverse weather conditions. Ability to operate equipment and machinery used in construction, installation, maintenance, location, and repair of sewage lines. Ability to perform arduous manual labor often under unfavorable conditions.
