Actalent Senior Automation Engineer in Peoria, Illinois

Typical day:

There are two sides of the job - programming side and design side. Programming side is essential. If they had to pick, they would want someone with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley first. They can train more easily on design side.

About a dozen or less projects per year they'll be working on. Initial upfront early stages, designing controls, select and build components, work with design team to make sure instruments are correct and after it's built testing and debugging machine as needed. The Engineer will have a lot of hands on experience with machines they design.

For projects requiring programming, 6-12 months. Will have projects in different stages, layered and staggered. Upfront lease to manufacturing, selecting components, build, test/debug, finalize programs, deliver.

Role Summary:

As a Sr. Process Automation Engineer, you will build the process automation architecture and related controls for a wide variety of material handling and process technology systems within the life sciences and chemical industries.

Everyday, you will develop automated process technology working with key stakeholders, both internal and external, on design requirements and solutions. This will involve writing PLC code, testing/debugging control systems, designing pneumatic/hydraulic circuits, and more.

You will be a go-to for technical questions for our Controls and Automation team.

To thrive in this role, you will need to enjoy tackling complicated problems, think through process problems critically and creatively, be able to quickly learn and utilize various software, and have a sophisticated understanding of process automation and controls coding languages and platforms (see qualifications below).

Objectives:

• Partner with our regional sales engineers and client stakeholders to develop the automated process technology for a wide variety of projects.

• Assist project managers with user requirements review from an electrical/signal/controls standpoint

• Completion of Functional Logic Flowcharts and/or Functional Design Specification for equipment, in collaboration with the Engineering or R&D team

• Source controls system components for a given machine in order to create a complete Bill of Materials

• Design pneumatic/hydraulic circuits and complete line diagrams for equipment

• Complete Relay Ladder Logic and instrument loop diagrams (wiring diagrams) for equipment

• Design control systems for equipment and process solutions

• Write PLC code for equipment and control processes

• Testing/Debugging of control systems on equipment

• Integrate equipment with third party control systems and networks
