THE POSITION

The Department of Human Services is seeking an energetic Purchasing Agent to join their team of professionals in the Procurement Department at Torrance State Hospital. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Purchasing Agent, you will be responsible for monitoring the processing of purchase documents, as well as coordinating with vendors, suppliers, the Department of General Services (DGS), and staff. You will also review purchasing processes, workflows, and authorizations. Other key duties of the position include preparing and soliciting bid proposals for supplies and services; preparing and processing SAP, SRM, P-Card, direct purchase, and advancement account orders; and assisting staff with purchasing procedures. Additionally, this position requires you to maintain a knowledge of accurate and systematic supply, procurement, and inventory methods for the department, in addition to the preparation and approval of documents.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (37.50-hour work week)

  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Schedule may change as operationally necessary.

  • Overtime and travel as needed

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in purchasing work involving contact with vendors in the procurement of a variety of supplies, materials, equipment, or services; or

  • Three years of experience in requisitioning, receiving, storing, distributing, and maintaining inventory of goods; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training. Post-high school education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for purchasing or stores experience to a maximum of two years.
