THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Upon completion of a 12-month training program, aimed at delivering an in-depth comprehension of traffic engineering concepts, you will take on the position of Traffic Control Technician. In this vital role, you will apply the knowledge and skills acquired during your training to effectively manage and enhance traffic control systems. The program focuses on traffic control responsibilities, where you will regularly assess traffic routes during both day and night to spot safety issues. Your tasks will include participating in traffic studies; counting vehicles; reviewing signs and pavement markings; handling Highway Occupancy Permit applications; and evaluating traffic signals.
You will also help investigate complaints related to signage and pavement markings; prepare necessary correspondence; suggest corrective measures; and create work orders. Additionally, you will prepare plans for traffic signals, electronic devices, highway lighting, and Intelligent Transportation Systems using computer aided drafting tools. Your work will involve creating spreadsheets, graphs, technical reports, and Geographic Information System maps. You will assist in engineering designs and traffic studies; analyzing crash data; evaluating safety improvements; and providing training on highway safety for various personnel.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Indiana.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
