THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands is looking for a Corrections Food Service Instructor to join our team of dedicated instructions. This role involves leading and mentoring inmates in the food service operation within the correctional institution. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will function as a lead worker and provide instruction to inmates through on-the-job vocational training. You will instruct inmates in food preparation, production, service, and baking. You will ensure proper control over inmates by enforcing custody and security regulations and inspecting all food service areas, equipment, and food for conformance with established safety and sanitation standards. In addition, you will ensure that meals are prepared and served in a timely manner.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (40-hour work week)

  • Schedule to be determined by open shifts at the time of hire.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
