THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB), an independent state agency with more than $3 billion sales yearly, is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to serve as an Attorney 3, Non-Supervisory within the Office of Chief Counsel. If you have professional legal experience with courtroom procedure; criminal law and appellate rules, the PLCB wants to talk to you!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position is responsible for non-supervisory professional legal work. An employee in this job performs professional legal work, which ranges from moderately difficult to complex. Work involves personal responsibility and accountability for difficult and important legal matters within the agency. The employee functions independently, and work is subject to general supervision. Legal advice is sought or received from higher level attorneys on legal issues of unusual complexity, sensitivity, or importance.

This position is primarily responsible for representing the Bureau of Licensing in administrative proceedings, representing the PLCB in courts of common pleas and on appeal, offering legal advice to the Bureau of Licensing, and corresponding on legal questions with licensees and the general public.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.

  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, (negotiable) Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 4 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of professional legal experience and graduation from an accredited school of law;or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Post Employment Requirement:

  • Applicants must be certified for admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and must maintain membership on a continuous basis during employment.

    Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Prior experience as a litigator in administrative or court proceedings is preferred.

  • Applicants who are highly motivated and ready to step into the role with little to no additional training.

    Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation. An applicant with a felony conviction within the last ten years of their prospective date of employment is not permitted to work for the PLCB, per section 210(c) of the Pennsylvania Liquor Code. Other criminal convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
