Naval Air Systems Command INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER in Patuxent River, Maryland

Summary You will serve as an INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER in the Mission Systems Group, Avionics Engineering Department, Avionics Systems Engineering Division, and Unmanned Aviation Branch of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV. The incumbent will support PMA-201 with long range kill chains for Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) and Hypersonic Air Launched Offensive (HALO) Anti-Surface Missile weapons systems. The duty location of this position is Patuxent River, Maryland. Responsibilities You will support the Link16 Crypto Mod 2 effort for LRASM, Small Diameter Bomb Increment II and Joint Standoff Weapon. You will represent PMA-201 in Long Range Fires Working Groups across services and Navy Components [to ensure the relevancy and timeliness of communication and informational threads]. You will perform research, development, and life-cycle support for avionics and weapons systems slated for or installed on advanced naval tactical aircraft. You will coordinate specific avionics systems engineering efforts within the assigned Program Office, at contractor facilities, and with the Fleet support teams. You will perform system integration, test and analysis necessary to transform operational needs into avionics system descriptions, integrate related technical engineering specialties. You will manage a variety of technical disciplines and provide leadership to numerous technical personnel. You will provide engineering management and engineering support throughout the aircraft life cycle including advanced development and in-service engineering. You will ensure technical requirements are met through tasking and coordination of available professional/technical resources including negotiating with various NAVAIR departments and other government activities to acquire needed technical expertise. You will lead the design modification, acquisition, integration, validation and final approval of the avionics equipment. You will provide recommendations for cost, schedule, and performance tradeoffs to PMA leadership when applicable in support of operational missions. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS 12/13) grade level or pay band (DP-04) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Demonstrating the technical management of avionics system development, design, analysis, test and evaluation, production and in-service support for modifications to assigned programs; 2) Preparing and modifying avionics procurement specifications, drawings and technical documentation for new replacement or modified items of avionics equipment; 3) Ensuring that all technical and operational requirements are met for the development, integration, and testing of applicable avionics and related modifications; 4) Determining the feasibility of integrating various avionics systems with specific attention to the effects on systems due to the unique aircraft environment and operational tactics required by the operator; and 5) Providing engineering management and engineering support throughout the aircraft life cycle including advanced development and in-service engineering. Education Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above) OR Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
