TITLE: Social Service & Youth Coordinator

STATUS: REGULAR FULL-TIME; NON-EXEMPT

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: CORPS OFFICER / Ministry Leader In- Charge

SCOPE OF POSITION:

This is a hybrid role with responsibilities the selected applicant must be able to work in a changing environment with a demonstrated ability to prioritize competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate. It is expected that all employees will support the organization’s mission, vision, and values

The coordinator will be responsible for discipleship of youth through Sunday School, youth programming, and case Management in the social service. Responsible for outreach to the youth of the community through various outreach opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Have an understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, programs, and practices and ability to share this.

  • High School Diploma or GED. Some college and/or degree preferred. On the job experience may be substituted for educational requirements.

  • Experience teaching or working with children in an educational or ministerial environment.

  • Have the ability to plan and schedule events.

  • Have the ability to work independently or with other staff members.

  • Be First Aid and CPR Certified or be willing acquire both upon acceptance of job offer.

  • Have experience working with volunteers and employees in both team and supervisory roles.

  • Have the ability to work under the restrictions of a monthly budget.

  • Bilingual in Spanish language.

  • Weekly work schedule is based on programming needs.

  • Have knowledge, such as accounts Receivable/Payable.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows applications

  • Possess a valid WA state driver’s license

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative:

  • Complete statistics for Social Services and Corps. Record and deposit funds received for Corps, donations, special activities, fundraisers. Will be required to travel to the bank to make deposits.

  • Manage office supply inventory and order as necessary.

  • Participate in seasonal programs at the Corps and Social Service, including setup & teardown.

  • Provide reception support as needed.

Social Service:

  • Participate in food drives and Christmas activities.

  • Provide direct assistance for food, clothing, household items, rental assistance.

  • Create and update a resource guide for Benton & Franklin Counties for Pathway of Hope clients.

  • Encourage Social Service Client families to join and participate in our weekly Corps activities.

  • Develop ways to involve volunteers in POH (e.g., social work students, internships, counseling).

  • Attend Divisional, POH, and/or Social Service Conferences in person or online.

  • Seek grants for utility assistance, deposits, or rent for housing needs.

Corps programs:

  • Plan curriculum, execute and attend Corps programs.

  • Report statistics for each individual children’s program and adult program.

  • Maintain classrooms, order Sunday School lessons, making sure areas are clean.

  • Following the guidelines of Protecting the Mission, The Salvation Army’s child safety program. Responsible to complete regular required training as needed.

  • Drive for Corps ministry and business needs including events, supplies or transportation.

  • Plan evangelistic outreach for youth and children aligned with Corps leadership goals.

  • Coordinate pastoral care for children and youth, ensuring regular contact.

  • Oversee program execution, including youth events, VBS, Youth Bible studies, etc.

  • Occasionally drive a 12-passenger Van to transport participants.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.

  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.

  • Ability to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

  • Ability to operate telephone.

  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.

  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer.

  • Ability to understand written information.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must be 21 years of age or older.

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time. Paid Vacation:

  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.

  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.

  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year.
