Columbia Basin College Instructional Designer in Pasco, Washington

The Instructional Designer collaborates with faculty on the design of high-quality courses aligned with college standards and promotes effective adoption of academic technologies to enhance student learning. This position identifies training needs, creates and delivers training for faculty and contributes to the culture of innovation, teaching excellence and collaboration across campus. The Instructional Designer reports to the Director for Teaching & Learning Center for Excellence.

This position is open until filled with priority consideration given to those applicants who submit a complete application by September 22, 2024 at 11:59 PM PST. The College will conduct initial interviews with selected candidates via Zoom and will conduct on-campus interviews with finalists.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, administration and instructional services to support strategic professional development resources and curriculum development and content creation;
  • Partner with the Library, EdTech and Disability Support Services staff to ensure compliance of course materials and Learning Management System support;
  • Incorporate learning theory and best practices in instruction, strategies and assessment into curricular development;
  • Collaborate with faculty, administration, and staff to identify learner needs;
  • Develop and facilitate training and presentations for campus stakeholders;
  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention, completion and transfer of CBC students;
  • Share instructional practices through newsletters and other written media to inform and promote adoption of best practice;
  • Provide exercises and activities to faculty that enhance the learning process for students;
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders;
  • Provide resources and guidance as it relates to instructional end goals and assessment of those goals;
  • Assist in the discovery, administration, and delivery of educational technologies;
  • Apply project management skills to ensure timely course development and delivery;
  • Assist in the review of courses, activities and assessments to ensure alignment with learning outcomes; and
  • Participate in active professional development focused on curricular development; teaching practice informed by diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility; and educational technology (e.g., Canvas LMS, artificial intelligence, etc.).
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education, curriculum development, instructional design, or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;

1 year of classroom teaching experience;
