The opportunity

The Chief of Staff, Global Legal will serve as a key partner to the Chief Legal Officer and the Global Legal leadership team by participating in the development of tactical and strategic plans to meet the team’s goals, ensure that team projects and initiatives are on an effective trajectory to achieve those goals, while addressing issues and obstacles that could impair the team's effectiveness.

The Chief of Staff, Global Legal will lead the planning, coordination, prioritization, and execution of transformational activities for the Global Legal department. The ideal candidate is a motivated individual who can combine diligent planning and organization, analytical rigor, an obsessive focus on outcomes, and an empathetic yet direct interpersonal style. The Chief of Staff, Global Legal will report directly to the Chief Legal Officer and be a member on the Global Legal leadership team.

The Chief of Staff, Global Legal will partner with Teva’s Office of Strategy and Transformation to ensure efficient and timely tracking, monitoring, and implementation success for all enterprise and other initiatives for legal transformation, especially those that get approved for addition to Teva’s respective corporate dashboard.

In addition to legal Pivot to Growth synergies and actions being the primary focus for the Chief of Staff, Global Legal, this person will work with the Chief Legal Officer as well as HR and Corporate Communications staff assigned to the Global Legal department to address its strategic comms plans and to produce and host precedent setting Legal Town Halls. Further, the Chief of Staff will assist the Chief Legal Officer and HR in producing various educational programs and leadership opportunities for the Global Legal and Global Compliance & Ethics departments.

How you’ll spend your day

  • Strategically plan and orchestrate the execution of the Chief Legal Officer’s daily activities relating to legal Pivot to Growth and other transformation initiatives, working closely with HR, the Office of Strategy & Transformation, Finance, Corporate Communications and all members of the Global Legal leadership team.

  • Identify and build coalitions of key stakeholders and sponsors to help deliver legal Pivot to Growth and other strategic initiatives.

  • Provide guidance to the Chief Legal Officer in the management of legal Pivot to Growth and other transformational initiatives. In partnership with the Chief Legal Officer’s Executive Assistant coordinate respective activities and calendars, trips to ensure time is appropriately planned and effectively spent and appropriate access is given.

  • Conduct in-depth analyses of corporate legal trends, dynamics, and the policy and regulatory landscape to identify opportunities for legal impact and differentiation.

  • Facilitate the Global Legal leadership team’s routines, policies, and processes including the preparation of materials for business reviews, Board presentations, management meetings, steering committees, town halls, and strategic site visits and summits.

  • Foster strong relationships with key members of the Global Legal and the Global Compliance & Ethics departments, and other key stakeholders of those departments.

  • Assimilate with the Global Legal leadership team and assist in its legal Pivot to Growth focus areas.

  • Coordinate with the heads of the Legal Centers of Excellence (“CoE”) to help them build optimal CoEs for their focus and connect them in regular governance to share best practices and lessons learned.

  • Bridge communication and collaboration gaps between the Chief Legal Officer, Teva’s executive management team, the Global Legal leadership team, and other key stakeholders.

  • Regularly review the activities of the Global Legal leadership team to ensure leadership team members are aligned and focused on the right priorities.

  • Track performance and progress on legal Pivot to Growth and other transformational legal priorities and proactively identify performance risks and secure the achievement of relevant objectives and KPIs.

  • Anticipate, identify, and facilitate resolution of issues between legal verticals and across functional lines and the Global Legal leadership team. Monitor the team’s performance and cultural dynamics and intervene, where needed, to keep the focus where it needs to be and to ensure appropriate follow up or adjustment to strategies, performance, and/or plans.

  • Analyze market intelligence and internal trends to advise the Global Legal leadership team and to ensure that the Global Legal department remains relevant and competitive.

  • Lead cross-legal strategic projects, as needed.

  • Be an effective representative and mouthpiece for the Chief Legal Officer across a broad spectrum of topics including standing in for the aforesaid in appropriate meetings, trips, or calls. Serve as a liaison between various functional areas and the Chief Legal Officer.

  • Enable a positive work environment and a high-performing culture.

Your experience and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field of study required. JD and/or MBA strongly preferred.

  • Life sciences background with experience across generics, biosimilars, and innovative pharmaceutical products and therapeutic areas, business development, and commercialization activities.

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in disciplines requiring strong strategic planning and facilitation skills focusing on legal transformation, including experience working directly for C-suite executives. Prior Chief of Staff roles preferred.

  • Ability to organize, lead, and execute on a variety of assignments, managing complex projects, implementing strategies successfully and driving for results across a global enterprise.

  • Strong strategic agility, broad perspective, business and financial acumen, with the ability to synthesize complex information and provide actionable recommendations.

  • Excellent organizational skills, proven attention to detail & ability to lead and balance multiple simultaneous projects while delivering on timely outcomes.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to influence internal and external stakeholders. This individual will be highly visible at all levels of the organization and must be able to build trust and credibility.

  • Experience in navigating ambiguity and ability to successfully adapt to a rapidly changing legal, compliance and business environment.

  • Willingness to stand up and advocate, appropriately, for what is right, in front of senior leadership. Able to identify, escalate, and resolve issues and mitigate risks, and lead through influence.

  • Able to craft and deliver clear and concise communication, create presentations and videos, speak in public extemporaneously, influence audiences, and lead change management, both internally and externally.

  • Know advanced principles and practices of project management.

  • Able to build complex cross-group/department plans, drive, track and report execution progress.

  • Expertise in developing, interpreting and administering policies and procedures.

  • Effective at working successfully and cooperatively with colleagues across multiple cultures and time zones.

  • Possesses good techniques to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and adjust to quickly changing priorities.

  • High understanding of technology concepts. Substantive experience in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Up to 33% global travel as needed.
