POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Principal supports the principal in the leadership, planning, and evaluation of instructional and operational activities within Grand Valley High School. This position assists with maintaining a safe and effective academic environment, managing student behavior, supporting staff development, and promoting academic success and student achievement. The Assistant Principal plays a key role in fostering a positive school climate and ensuring that school policies and procedures align with district goals.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Behavior & Discipline: Supervise and monitor student behavior to maintain an academic environment conducive to achievement, including overseeing common areas such as lunchrooms and hallways. Address student discipline issues in accordance with school policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and respectful school climate. Respond to and resolve student conflicts, managing crises as necessary and ensuring student safety. Enforce school and district attendance, behavior, and tardy guidelines, collaborating with staff to promote appropriate behavior and academic success.
Academic Leadership & Support: Collaborate with teachers to ensure curriculum alignment with content standards and instructional effectiveness. Utilize student assessment data to drive instructional improvements, inform policy decisions, and communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff. Support the development and implementation of academic interventions and student support systems to promote achievement and success.
Staff Supervision & Development: Assist the principal in evaluating, mentoring, and monitoring both certified and classified staff. Promote professional development and continuous growth for faculty and staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and high expectations. Participate in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of staff as needed.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a liaison between the school and parents/guardians, maintaining effective communication regarding student attendance, events, and concerns. Foster positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the broader school community. Respond to parent and community concerns to promote positive public relations and engage stakeholders in supporting student success.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all school and district safety regulations and guidelines. Support the school's efforts to comply with state and federal education laws, including student data privacy and equity requirements. Coordinate school safety drills and respond to emergency situations, providing leadership and direction during crises.
Other Administrative Duties: Support the principal in managing school operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation as needed. Assist with student registration and enrollment processes. Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information and adhere to all district policies, procedures, and Board expectations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY: Strong leadership and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and support a diverse student body and staff. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Knowledge of educational best practices, student assessment tools, and behavioral management strategies. Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions to improve student outcomes. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and the community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Colorado Principal/Administrator's L cense. 1-3 years of teaching experience at the secondary level (preferred). Experience in an administrative or leadership role (preferred). Strong oral and written communication skills; multilingual skills are a plus. Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 11-month position with hours adjusted to meet job requirements. May require evening and weekend duties as necessary. Clear criminal background check. Verification of health to perform job duties. Valid CO certification.
