Summary
The Ecological Consultant role is responsible for assessing, mitigating, and providing recommendations regarding the environmental impacts of engineering projects. Physical Demands & Work Environment:
• Lifting and/or occasionally moving up to thirty-five pounds can be expected, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk and hear. Body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment and in the field
• Fieldwork may involve exposure to various environmental conditions, including outdoor work in different weather conditions and potentially remote or challenging locations
• This is not a remote position. This role will be based on the selected job posting location.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Proficiently operates a computer
Ability to function in a high-stress environment, be a strong multi-tasker, and be a team player
Answers client questions and assists them promptly
Knowledge and usage of proper format, grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Conducts fieldwork in the role of Applied Ecologist, producing wetland delineations, imperiled species investigations, protected tree inventories, and FNAI plant community identification and mapping
Utilizes ArcMap to generate high-quality maps, sketches, and other graphics for technical reports and environmental permit applications
Ability to understand and effectively communicate complex ecological and regulatory concepts to both subject matter experts and the general public
Utilizes Tremble GNSS equipment, generate, manage, and manipulate spatial data
Ability to create reports based on the information gathered
Regular attendance is required
Follows safety procedures
Other duties may be assigned
Required Qualifications:
Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria), may or may not be required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role
Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
Proficiency in wetland delineation with demonstrable experience
Demonstrate a strong understanding of sediment biogeochemistry and wetland hydrology
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Biology, Forestry, or related field
Proficiency with ArcMap, Tremble GPS
Ability to read and write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as writing routine reports and correspondence and speaking effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails
Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form
Preferred Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience in the same or related field
Master’s degree in Biology or related field
Professional certifications such as Professional Wetland Scientist, ISA Arborist, Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner, Gopher tortoise agent, etc.
Previous experience in an A/E/C firm
