Job Summary

The Civil Engineer I position will support operations for the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) Airbase Technologies contracts. This position is located on-site at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL .

The successful candidate will support existing and emerging technical areas related to U.S. Air Force Civil Engineering requirements. AFCEC conducts research and development that centers on the design, synthesis, characterization, and validation of civil engineering materials for various applications, including runway pavements, airfield damage repair, protective shelters, fire- and heat-resistant structures, blast-ballistic resistant structures and new construction methods. This work ranges from material science and engineering to engineering property analysis and additive manufacturing.

Active areas of research include, but are not limited to:

1) Cementitious Materials and Emerging Construction Processes such as 3D printing of cement

2) Airfield Pavements

3) Structural Protection against Blast and Ballistics, Fire, and Environmental effects

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, performs civil engineering research, design, development, testing and analysis to support Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts.

• Performs assignments related to design effectiveness and structural reliability. Performs research and development activities relative to civil engineering projects, ensuring all standards are met.

• Analyzes blueprints, maps, drawings, tests and data. Interprets results and contributes to technical reports.

• Troubleshoots processes when expected results are not obtained.

• Documents and works to resolve basic problems. Reports progress on problem resolution to management.

• Completes assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.

Key Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field

• Must be able to demonstrate good oral and written communication skills

• Must be a US citizen and have a background which would not preclude the granting of a government issued security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proactive, self-starter who can work independently and, in a team, environment.

• Proficient knowledge and experience required of Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint), Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
