A Brief Overview

The Sr.Director Strategic Operations reports to the SVP Destination Service Lines & Chief Clinical Operations Officer, and is responsible for leading the development and execution of all aspects of the SVP's strategic plan for multiple service lines and clinical operations. Plays an integral role supporting senior leaders on a variety of strategic projects that advance organizational goals and operations, Leads, organizes and coordinates cross-entity strategic and operational projects that have a high degree of complexity and are large in scope with many interdependencies, stakeholders and multi-faceted processes. Provides executive level leadership and expertise by integrating organization, financial and administrative functions for strategic planning and translating plans for tactical execution.

What you will do

  • Lead the design and execution of strategic and organizational frameworks/initiatives across the SVP’s portfolio and the Stanford Health Care enterprise, including, but not limited to:

  • Ensuring the Integrated Strategic Plan (ISP) and tripartite mission is being fulfilled across multiple service lines and clinical departments.

  • Aligning department’s annual operational and business planning efforts with organizational-wide operational plan and strategic planning process.

  • Driving these planning process through all departments and levels reporting to the SVP.

  • Develop, deploy and manage strategic processes, such as cascading/aligning inter-department goals, resource allocation and deployment, physician engagement, and service line performance management.

  • Lead, organize, and coordinate cross-entity strategic/operational initiatives that are complex in nature, including the implementation of service line/departmental strategic plans.

  • Serve as primary liaison and contractual expert for network development and inter-entity agreements within Stanford Medicine. Partners with SVP and other senior leaders to build, maintain, develop, and implement Stanford network strategies.

  • Identify opportunities and strategies for integrating culture and process with outside departments and/or across the Stanford enterprise.

  • Partner/coordinate with SHC Human Resources to support and focus on the execution of HR and people-related programs that optimizes productivity, increases engagement, supports DEI initiatives, and enhances staff experience.

  • Serve as content expert/point person for key initiatives and may represent SVP in governance forums or applicable stakeholder meetings, as required.

  • Conduct research and identify process, technology and organizational changes required due to emerging healthcare industry trends and market conditions.

  • Draft Board/C-level presentations and business plans.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with system leaders, affiliate management teams, physician leaders, and project resources.

  • Serves as an expert resource for Clinical Operations methodology and project management

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university required. Combination of experience and education will be considered.Master’s degree in business, health or public administration, management, or related field preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • 8 years of progressively responsible and related work experience, including experience in administrative or managerial positions particularly in an academic teaching facility and/or large health system environmentSignificant proven healthcare management experience with demonstrated leadership in strategic/ business planning, program development, project management, process improvement, and physician relations requiredProven ability to work successfully in an AMC environment, preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of health care operations, health care delivery, project management process and systems, and quality improvement are required

  • High level of operational thinking/expertise to understand and analyze healthcare operations quickly and become a trusted advisor to CAO/SVP/VP and peers

  • Strong knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma techniques

  • Ability to effectively oversee multiple projects simultaneously as well as manage /lead/facilitate large and diverse teams to deliver results within specified timeframes

  • Ability to quickly learn new tools and theories in process improvement/change management

  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated capacity to develop and implement practical strategies, plans, and solutions to identified issues and problems

  • Superior critical thinking skills, including the capacity to identify and appropriately assess and order competing interests and priorities

  • Requires exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Tact, diplomacy, and adaptability are required

  • Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus

  • Ability to provide leadership, influence others and motivate cross-functional departmental and enterprise-wide performance

  • Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of staff

  • Ability to work comfortably with senior executives as well as faculty and staff who have various levels of education and expertise, understand their work patterns and partner to drive improvement

Licenses and Certifications

  • PMP - Project Mgmt Professional preferred .

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $88.93 - $117.84 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
