Hyatt Staff Accountant in PALM SPRINGS, California

Description:

Thompson Palm Springs is now recruitingfor a Staff Accountant to join the hotel’s pre-opening team. Thompson Palm Springs is poised to become the desert’s most exciting destination tailored for influential locals and sophisticated globetrotters alike. Situated at the heart of the city’s iconic Palm Canyon Drive, the hotel will offer a collection of 168 bungalow-inspired guest rooms and suites coupled with our total event space of 8,000 square feet plusadditionaloutdoor and unique spaces. Thompson Palm Springs will also house its own mainstay dining concept that will feed into the menus at two bespoke pools andaccompanyinglounges. an impressive array of ground-level retail space spanning over30,000-square-feet, guests will also have access toa state-of-the-artfitness center and a first-of-its-kind tasting room from HALL Napa Valley, withadditionaltenants to follow.

The Staff Accountant is responsible forthe oversight of the hotel's general ledger operations and supports the hotel Controller. Additionally, this person willbe responsible forefficiently running theAccountingdepartment in line with Hyatt Corporate standards while meeting guest and owner expectations. Otherresponsibilities will include the following:

  • Prepare and review all journal vouchers, month-endreportsandreconciliations

  • Review preliminary financial statements withController

  • Participate in monthly financial reviews andassistController with the presentation of thesereports

  • Assist Controller with supervisingAccountingstaff and the Information Technology functions of the hotel including coaching and counseling associates to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedures, interviewing,trainingand evaluating performance of staff.

  • Manage and help oversee hotel on-site accounting functions to ensure proper fiscal management,timelyandaccuratereportingand analysis for the hotel. This responsibility also includes hotel financial planning, budgeting,accountingand cashmanagement

  • Systems administration, G/L account reconciliations, budget preparations, inventories, monthlyclosingsand full P&L responsibility.

  • Assistwith managing and ensuring SOXcompliance

  • Assist Controller with completing the year-end audit process. Review and approve all reconciliations and audit work papers. Participate in and respond to auditor requests to ensure total hotel compliance.

  • Help prepare all monthly and annual financial statements. Investigate,reviewand analyze the varianceexplanations,involving the department staff in this process. Take initiative to manage trouble shooting for respective cost controls and revenueenhancement

  • Assist Controller with special reporting and analysisprojects

T his is a nonexempt (hourly) leadership role. The annual salary for this position is anticipated to be between $60,000 - $87,000, based on a 45-hour work week. This is theannualhourly-salaryfor this position that Thompson Palm Springsreasonably expectsto pay. Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based ona number offactors includingexperience,and education.

Qualifications:

  • Hospitality or Accounting degreepreferred

  • 2 years or more of progressiveAccountingexperience, preferably in a hotel

  • Experience supervisingAccountingstaff members

  • Prior MICROS, ADP/Enterprise,Kronos, and Hyatt systems (Opera and PMS)expertisedesired

  • Must be an advanced user of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnicbackgrounds

  • Mustpossessthe following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, effective communicator,effective inprovidingexceptional customer service and ability to improve the bottomline

  • Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Must have excellent organizational,administrativeand problem-solvingskill
