Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is seeking an experienced professional to join the Power Generation Division Engineering & Operations Support Services organization as part of the wind renewable energy fleet team. The ideal candidate is highly capable, well organized, results oriented, self-directed, process focused and an effective communicator who can build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Overview and Expectations:

  1. Position responsibilities include dispositioning failing components, executing root cause analysis, and evaluating upgrades for wind turbine mechanical systems and equipment. Specific areas of focus will include wind turbine drive-train system, yaw system, pitch system, and hydraulic system.

  2. Position makes decisions and recommendations having significant impact on engineering and related activities of company. Negotiates critical and controversial issues with top level engineers internally and externally to the organization.

  3. Candidate will be required to demonstrate a high degree of creativity in problem solving, sound judgment in planning, organization and execution of assigned work.

  4. Candidate will be required to troubleshoot wind turbine mechanical systems, champions the quality process, design specialty tooling, and perform cost justifications.

  5. Candidate will be required to complete engineering studies, engineering reports, engineering calculations, engineering drawing/specifications, support contractor bid packages, cost/schedule estimates. Duties will also include other associated activities as assigned.

  6. Candidate will be required to mentor junior team members and demonstrate/promote company values.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Respond as needed during off-hours as power generation business operates ‘around the clock’

With little supervision/guidance, the successful candidate will be expected to:

Qualifications:

7+ Years of Relevant Engineering Work (design, project, test, etc.)

5+ Years of Experience in Wind Power Generation and/or Drivetrain Experience

Demonstrated History of Leadership Capability and Project Ownership

Travel to wind sites as often as 5-10 days per month

Physically Capable of Climbing a Wind Turbine and Executing Field Work

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering

  • 7+ years of experience in power generation (renewables preferred) or related industrial field

  • Gear, Bearing, Bolted Joint Design, Application and/or Maintenance Experience

  • Licensed Professional Engineer

  • Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering

  • Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering

  • Patent holder

  • Experience in project management and/or personnel supervision

  • Experience with AutoCAD or Solid Works

  • Experience with Maximo or similar enterprise asset management system

  • Six Sigma certification, Shainin Red 8 Journeyman or similar quality process certification
