PURPOSE:

To assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational benefits for students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The list of essential duties and responsibilities, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the task to be performed. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein is such duties are a logical assignment to the position.

  1. Provides instructional support to assigned students to implement educational programs as determined by the teacher/resource team/administrator. • Constructs/ modifies/adapts instructional materials/games/displays/learning centers • Works with students to operate computer and supportive technology • Supervises the student’s completion of educational activities as outlined in the IEP, observes and records data • Maintains records and files relevant to assignment- anecdotal notes, written observations, accurate education folders

  2. Implements behavioral programming as determined by team. • Must efficiently track individual student data throughout the school day both electronically and by hand (pen/pencil). Title: Intensive Behavior Paraprofessional

  3. Provides personal and safety assistance to students.

  4. Communicates and shares ideas and concerns with Assistant Principal and assigned teacher.

  5. Actively participates in meetings as required.

  6. Assists with critical daily activities such as classroom transition times, mealtimes, and toileting.

  7. Supervises students as required in classroom, media room, cafeteria/multi-purpose room, sensory room, gym playground field trips.

  8. Fosters student independence.

  9. Demonstrates the ability to use techniques and strategies taught and trained during times of student crisis.

  10. Promoting active engagement throughout the class day.

  11. Works collaboratively as a member of the team • Performs other duties as assigned • Help to maintain a clean and organized learning environment • Sanitize all surfaces, equipment, and classroom toys

  12. Maintains American Heart Association certification in First Aid and CPR.

  13. Successfully completes Little City Foundation required training, re-training, and any additional training as required by Little City Foundation policies and practices, or as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor. • Must complete and pass RBT training assigned by Little City Foundation.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma/GED required, and Paraprofessional Educator License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in education, human services, or disability related field and Paraprofessional Educator License, or Professional Educator License/Professional Educator License with Stipulations. Experience required in working with individuals who engage in challenging behaviors, including but not limited to, physical aggression, self-injurious behavior, elopement, and property destruction. Upon acceptance, must be able to pass nonviolent crisis intervention classes as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods; frequently grasps, lifts, holds, or feels objects; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working with persons served and handling office, medical, or household equipment. The employee is subject to assist and lift up to 25 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must have the ability to perform CPR and be certified in Advanced CPI. Occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious substances, including communicable diseases when performing personal care (Category III). Occasional exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants. School work environment with a noise level of normal to loud. The physical demands described here are representative of those that Title: Intensive Behavior Paraprofessional must be met by an employee to perform successfully the essential functions of this job.
