Carmeuse Americas Yager Materials - Paving Estimator in OWENSBORO, Kentucky
The Paving Estimator position is responsible for the preparation of estimates Paving and Asphalt paving for site improvements for state jobs, private jobs, county jobs, commercial buildings, apartment, and subdivision projects. This position will work closely with Project Owners, Vendors, Subcontractors, Project Managers, and finance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a requirement of this position as well as meticulous attention to detail.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Work the entire life cycle of a bid from bid invitation to finalizing bid proposal for submission to
Analyze and review construction documents: plans, addendums, and Identify scope of work and perform quantity takeoffs of site, civil, and underground utility
Conduct project site visits and attend pre-bid site meetings during bidding process to learn scope of work and understand site conditions/restrictions.
Solicit and review proposals from material vendors and subcontractors to ensure accuracy, evaluate responses, scope compliance, and make recommendations with regards to the overall project estimate and bid
Ensure estimates are complete, well organized, and ready for review
Develop preliminary construction schedules based on the project information provided in the plans and
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintain a highly organized work area, meet critical deadlines, prioritize daily activities, and
Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with a strong attention to
Works hands on and independently, as well as part of the estimating/project management
Working knowledge of construction assemblies and all project phases.
Ability to identify constructability issues through the estimating
Ability to assess site exposures/construction risks and appropriately analyze cost and reflect these in an
Ability to produce accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic
Ability to produce detailed, final contract
Ability to read, write and communicate
Responsible for a safe work environment for themselves and co-workers daily
Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for a safe working environment. Report any problems to the AOM, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
Communicates daily with customer to ensure project is complete within timeline.
Responsible for managing personnel as well as scheduling and monitoring time worked for estimating purposes
Ensures that quality control standards are met.
Responsible for ensuring daily maintenance and service on plant is completed schedules major repairs.
Perform general laboring duties when necessary.
Coordinate to ensure permits and licensing are obtained for job sites.
Ensures that field measurements, core samples, density, tonnage, and labor are consistent with the job site bids.
Coordinate weekly and yearly budget forecasting
Liaison between contractors and employer
Responsible for reviewing/securing bonds
Facilitate meetings as needed with the state or county officials.
Communicate with supervisors regarding processes, delays, or workload based on priority.
Other duties as assigned per supervisor.
Job Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years in age or older.
Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a requirement of this position as well as meticulous attention to detail
5 years of experience working for Site Constructor bidding on primarily private site improvement projects
Bachelor s Degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or related field experience
Working knowledge of construction assemblies and all project phases
Experience in identify value-engineering
Ability to identify constructability issues through the estimating
Ability to assess site exposures/construction risks and appropriately analyze cost and reflect these in an
Ability to produce accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic
Ability to produce detailed, final contract
Ability to read, write and communicate
Experience with SAP preferred
Must be highly self-motivated, persistent ad able to cope with requirements of a fast paced environment
Proven ability to develop & maintain long-term business relationships
Strong computer skills in Word and Excel; highly self-motivated, persistent and able to cope with the requirements of a fast paced work environment
