Indian Hills Community College Campus Activities Coordinator/Residence Hall Supervisor in Ottumwa, Iowa

Job Summary:

Indian Hills Community College is seeking a qualified candidate to coordinate campus activities and to oversee a residence hall facility, dealing with day to day issues, working with residents to provide a safe setting and programming for students to have the total college experience. The Campus Activities Coordinator/Residence Hall Supervisor will develop, organize, and implement intramural sports, campus-wide activities, and engaging events for students. This position will focus on providing cultural, social, athletic, artistic, and recreational activities that facilitate personal growth and strengthen the connection between students and the college. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for creating and managing a residence hall community that allows students to grow collectively and individually. The primary goal of this position is to establish an environment that is conducive to the academic and non-academic development of students. The Campus Activities Coordinator/RH Supervisor maintains professional working relationships and communications within the department and with other college departments and personnel in order to carry out, with positive results, the mission of the college.

The Campus Activities Coordinator/RH Supervisor is required to live in the apartment provided on-campus. During the week (Monday-Thursday), the Residence Hall Supervisor must be readily available at all times to respond to emergency situations in housing if needed. This employee will be expected to maintain a work schedule that will maximize contact with students, often before and after scheduled on-call rotation hours. Hours will include some day, evening, and weekend hours. The Campus Activities Coordinator/RH Supervisor is required to be on an on-call rotation and must be available during scheduled on-call rotation hours to respond to emergency situations.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Excellent problem-solving, conflict management, crisis management, team building, and communication skills required.

  • Experience building positive and effective relationships with colleagues and students across a diverse college population preferred.

  • Experience planning educational and recreational activities.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

  • Ability to relate to and supervise young people, residential program experience preferred.

  • Computer literacy: Excel, Word, etc.

    Work Performed:

  • Provide oversight of one of the Ottumwa Main Campus housing facilities as selected by the Director of Student Life.

  • Develop expertise in and enforce College and departmental policies and procedures including student conduct code and gender-based misconduct. Responsible for enforcing housing regulations and assessing fines when necessary. Develop expertise in Maxient Student Conduct software to assist in tracking Housing incidents and sanctions.

  • Be first resource for resident students for crisis/conflict management. Able to refer students to appropriate resources in a timely fashion when appropriate.

  • When appropriate, work with Campus Security, Student Development Department, and other departments on Residence Hall issues. Follow-up with students, staff and the campus community as appropriate. This may include monitoring the Campus Security phone and responding to concerns across campus.

  • Work with Director of Student Life to coordinate housing processes. Welcome students and families to campus in a positive manner. Be able to answer general questions about Indian Hills with new students and their families.

  • Dress and act to appropriately represent Indian Hills Community College at all activities and events.

  • Aid in facility maintenance and equipment inventory.

  • Develop expertise in Housing software and issued devices.

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work, including attending departmental and institutional meetings.

  • Assist with all campus wide activities and events put on by Student Life. Organize three Ottumwa campus events, one Centerville campus event, and one intramural event each month. These events will promote departmental learning objectives.

  • Oversee the organization and implementation of IHCC intramural activities and events for IHCC students including planning tournaments, coordinating facilities, supervising activities, and recruiting and training intramural officials and event volunteers.

  • Must have 8 office hours each week in the Student Development Department office.

  • Organize Student Life Staff activities and Staff and Student Recognition efforts.

  • Work closely with the Residence Hall Supervisors and Resident Assistants regarding residence hall programming efforts. Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate all activities related to the educational programming and developmental elements.

  • Oversee all Student Life participation tracking, including all campus-wide activities, residence life building events, and intramural events, and keep Director of Student Life updated on all tracking efforts. Assess student learning outcomes, evaluate student satisfaction, and implement student and resident retention efforts.

  • Serve as primary Advisor to IHCC Student Senate along with the Director of Student Life, including planning and organizing bi-monthly All Club Meetings.

  • Maintain Student Development Event calendar and Student Life Social Media Accounts, and work with Marketing to advertise all campus-wide student activities and intramural events.

  • Work with Admissions to assist with campus tours, as needed.

  • Other duties as may be assigned.
