WSP USA Project Engineer - Roads, Land Development & Municipal Engineering in Ottawa, Ontario
The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking an Intermediate Project Engineer to join our Land Development and Municipal Engineering team, located in our Ottawa office. Reporting to the Roads Manager, this position will be responsible for the execution and delivery of a variety of municipal transportation projects. The opportunity will have a focus on local projects within the City of Ottawa. This role is intended for someone who has obtained their designation as a Professional Engineer. You'll be surrounded by subject matter experts who are willing to support you and your ongoing professional development but also by engineering graduates and technologists who will look to you to provide them technical guidance, support and mentorship in their development.
As part of the Land Development and Municipal Engineering team in Ontario, you'll be responsible for driving forward our ambitious plans to enhance our service offering in the province through your work with a close-knit team of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff.

What you can expect to do here:
An intermediate engineer begins their week with a team huddle, discussing the week's objectives with other Engineers, Engineering Graduates, Technologists and Project Managers. They then dive into the technicalities , completing preliminary and detailed design calculations, plans, and reports , reviewing intricate drawings and technical specifications for various municipal and transportation projects. Collaboration is key, as they coordinate with multiple disciplines to ensure all aspects of the projects align. The work includes reviewing project plans and site conditions, ensuring compliance with zoning laws and applicable regulations and guidelines. You will collaborate with other stakeholders including Geotechnical and Structural Engineers, Landscape Architects, Architects, Contractors, and Clients to design infrastructure that supports community growth, such as roads, active transportation facilities, water and wastewater conveyance systems, and public spaces. The work is a balance between office-based design and on-site application, all contributing to the sustainable development of the community. Each project brings unique challenges and opportunities to innovate , making every day a dynamic experience in shaping the spaces where people live and work.
In addition to these responsibilities, an Engineer is prepared to take on other duties as required, showcasing their versatility and commitment to the team. Their contributions are essential to the successful delivery of public and private sector projects, impacting communities by enhancing the efficiency and safety of land development and municipal engineering projects. A few other responsibilities include:
You will carry out preliminary and detailed design of roads, municipal infrastructure including sewers and watermains, culverts and other civil structures;
You will estimate quantities and prepare construction cost estimates;
You will check designs and drawings;
You will prepare specifications and contract documents;
You will review shop drawings;
You will carry out contract administration and construction supervision;
You will prepare reports and proposals;
You will carry out other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or an equivalent program;
A Masters degree and/or PMP certification would be considered an asset;
Registered as a P.Eng. in Ontario;
5 -10 years of experience in a consulting environment focused on land development projects;
Design knowledge of roads and highways, site servicing including storm, sanitary and water, grading and drainage including stormwater management;
You have a proven background at networking, building relationships, and business development;
Experienced in report and proposal writing;
Experience in AutoCAD, Microstation, and Bentley InRoads software will set you apart from your peer group;
Experienced in project management on the municipal road and/or transit design projects will be considered an asset;
Industry knowledge to competently respond to proposal requests, prepare specifications and cost estimates for municipal road work;
Comprehensive knowledge of TAC Guideline, Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD) and City of Ottawa design guidelines;
Experience within an engineering consulting environment with a background in project management and contract administration on municipal roads and/or transit design projects is an asset; and a
Valid Ontario driver’s license.
