L3Harris Intermediate Systems Engineer, Naval Communications Systems in Ottawa, Ontario
About your next Challenge as a Intermediate Systems Engineer, Naval Communications Systems :
Working as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team including hardware, software, and systems engineering, the candidate will be responsible for assisting and overseeing with the development of engineering designs, integration testing, and delivery of modern marine and naval communications systems. Working through system and customer requirements, the candidate will be expected to become a subject matter expert in one or more sub-systems, and drive the system design to a compliant solution.The candidate should have a thorough understanding of the systems engineering process systems from concept through to systems test and delivery. This typically will include functional analysis, requirements allocation & traceability, engineering trade-off studies, system synthesis, integration & verification testing, support to manufacturing, change management, and system-level troubleshooting.
What will you do:
System Engineering activities for bids, contracts and products in the military / civilian markets for domestic / international customers ;
Create of high-level conceptual designs, innovative, scalable, and adaptive solutions to complex systems;
Produce Interface Control Documents (ICDs) between system components
Perform systems studies and analyses;
Perform trade studies and engineering budgets (power, weight, design margin, etc.);
Risk Management including identification of risks, write risk statements, and prepare risk mitigation strategies;
Change management including analysis and tracking of baseline changes;
Estimate work packages;
Design, implement and execute system test cases; analyze and evaluate test results;
Develop technical specifications for suppliers and subcontractors, identify potential suppliers, and monitor supplier performance;
Prepare equipment procurement specification;
Scoping and costing specialty efforts;
Industry engagement and trade studies for refinement of equipment specifications to develop optimal system solutions;
Develop test plans to verify and validate requirements;
Requirements elicitation and decomposition towards subsystem elements including subcontracted items;
Requirements derivation and development for subsystem elements;
Technical subcontract management including management of work scope and compliance of the (subcontractor) supplied solution;
Develop of the preliminary and detailed designs for system and subsystem elements;
Produce technical documentation to capture the system and subsystem designs including the architecture, interfaces and installation elements;
Support test, verification, and validation activities;
Provide mentorship and leadership to junior engineering staff.
Required Skills and Experiences:
Requires strong knowledge of job area.
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Knowledge of naval communication systems, including V/UHF systems, SATCOM systems, tactical voice systems
Knowledge of environmental, EMI/EMC, and certification requirements
Knowledge of RF antenna performance and co-site interference tools and processes
Experience working in different operating systems (Windows, Linux, Apple, etc.).
Working knowledge of IBM DOORS®
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Working knowledge of typical military and IEC standards used for system design and test
Knowledge of naval and commercial certification standards and processes
Proficient in MS Office tools
Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory):
Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada Reliability status and Secret Level 2 / NATO Secret security clearance.
Must be eligible to meet the requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
