What does the job involve?

Equinor has a global presence with offices in over 30 countries, 40.000 user accounts, and a complex threat picture that is challenging to work with and defend against. The Cyber Defense Center (CDC) in Equinor is responsible for detecting and responding to cyber threats as well as delivering Cyber Threat Intelligence and Cyber Awareness services to end users and leadership. Most of our team are in Stavanger, but we also have members working out of Oslo and Bergen.

What will my tasks be?

Within this position, your key tasks will be to:

  • Scenario-Based Hunting: Execute comprehensive threat hunts based on various scenarios, which may include specific threat actor Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs), exploitation of vulnerabilities and other threat models.

  • Playbook and Methodology Development: Develop and refine threat hunting playbooks and methodologies to ensure consistent and effective threat detection and response processes.

  • Threat Intelligence Integration: Utilize Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) to guide threat hunting activities, keeping track of threat actors and assessing exploited vulnerabilities.

  • Comprehensive Data Analysis: Perform threat detection across various datasets including IT host logs, cloud logs, network logs, and Operational Technology (OT) logs, using diverse data sources to identify anomalies and suspicious behaviour.

  • SOC Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other members of our Cyber Defense Center, contributing to the day-to-day operations of our Security Operations Center (SOC). This engagement typically constitutes about 5% of working hours.

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, or a related field. Extensive, high-level experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.

  • 5+ years of experience in Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI), threat hunting, and advanced cyber defence operations.

  • Lead the development and execution of advanced threat hunting strategies, aligning them with organisational security objectives.

  • Define and continuously refine methodologies, frameworks, and playbooks to enhance threat hunting effectiveness.

  • Extensive experience in scenario-based hunting, including advanced anomaly detection across IT, cloud, network, and OT environments.

  • Extensive experience in Windows, Azure, Network, IT Operations, and Cyber Threat Intelligence, Microsoft Defender Suite, Microsoft Sentinel & Azure Data Explorer.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams.

  • A highly proactive and influential mindset, with a passion for Cyber Security and a commitment to driving security best practices at scale.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
