JOB REQUIREMENTS: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Conduct Team Policing activities to include but not limited to: developing partnerships in the community, attending community meetings/events, and identifying and solving community problems. This includes using available resources and data to apply problem oriented policing strategies. Arrest persons with and without warrants and assist in prosecutions as required. Investigate assigned calls for service and take appropriate actions. Conduct follow-up investigations during the normal course of an investigation or upon special request. Identify and investigate suspicious vehicles, persons or situations. Properly prepare and testify in court and whenever subpoenaed. Help motorists on roadways who need assistance. Enforce traffic laws with appropriate discretion and issue warnings, citations and summons to violators as guided by departmental rules. This includes using radar laser and pacing to ensure compliance with speed limits. Direct traffic on roadways when necessary. Investigate traffic crashes as assigned, determine the cause of crashes, complete accident reports, and issue traffic citations when appropriate. Observe, report and take action to mitigate traffic hazards. Enforce bicycle and pedestrian laws. Enforce all parking ordinances, including abandoned vehicles. Keep up-to-date on new and innovative law enforcement techniques and ideas to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Operate police equipment as efficiently and effectively as possible under a variety of conditions and in accordance with law and established procedures. Maintain issued equipment, such as uniforms, firearms, handcuffs, etc., in good repair. Equipment must be complete, neat and in good working order. Operate department vehicles in a safe manner. Complete inspections of assigned vehicles for damage prior to use and report any damage found to a supervisor. Ensure each vehicle has the materials and equipment necessary for duty. Be responsible for and familiar with the City Handbook, Rules of Conduct and all department policies, directives, and memos. Complete all required reports and forms and turn in any associated material promptly. Use uncommitted time to improve the quality of life in an assigned team area. Take control of any emergency situation at which the officer is present. Provide direction to other officers assigned on an investigation. Subdue resisting persons. Handcuff and transport prisoners or suspects in custody. Evacuate persons from dangerous areas and administer first aid including CPR. Respond to assigned requests for service and alarms. Request and interpret TIME, NCIC and all other appropriate software information. Mediate civil disputes. Share community concerns which are not the direct responsibility of the police department with the appropriate outside agency or city division. Provide notification of criminal violations occurring outside the department\'s jurisdiction to the appropriate law enforcement agency. Serve all assigned warrants promptly, regardless of whether the source of the warrant is this or another department. Participate in assigned training programs. Conduct tavern inspections. Check buildings for burglaries or damage. Assist other law enforcement agencies upon request if it does not conflict with department policy. Return to duty when directed to do so by a supervisor. Participate in special assignments as assigned. Assist with training, planning, research, and policy development as assigned. Participate in the execution of search warrants as assigned. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Be a citizen of the United States. Have a background that is free of felony or domestic abuse convictions. Have the ability to complete the standardized course to achieve Wisconsin Law Enf rcement certification. Be physically able to perform the duties required of the position of patrol officer, including but not limited to: The use of equipment and weapons commonly used by law enforcement officers; the ability to perform use of force tactics commonly called Defensive and Arrest Tactics; the ability to physically assist and direct people in various situations.
