Position Summary
The Software Engineering Intern supports Parker-Meggitt’s Engineering Department in its execution of engineering design changes in a timely manner and to supplement the software engineering role in preventing or correcting quality defects, resolving production problems, designing software test criteria, executing software testing, and contributing to the development of software code for aerospace applications
This is a year-round internship position with the potential to last through graduation. Candidates must be local to the Tucson/Oro Valley areas.
Core Responsibilities
Software Engineering support role for products including:
Develop structured code for embedded micro controllers
Develop related software documentation and formatting including technical specifications
Interfacing through protocols such as SPI, I2C, CAN, and others as needed
Other related aspects in the creation of titled embedded code
Design and research of software coding
Design and analysis tasks for software applications
Develop and maintain company and customer required documentation
Application code generation for test fixtures and/or customer laptop use
Developing software engineering reports, analyses, support drafting test equipment drawings
On the job learning of Software Engineering principles and Parker-Meggitt Tucson Processes
Drafting of Engineering Changes at the direction of Engineers
Employ knowledge and skills learned from school in day-to-day work
Regular contact with Electrical Engineers, Laboratory Technicians, Electrical and Systems Engineers, and Quality Assurance team members at Parker-Meggitt Tucson’s facility
Develop positive and professional working relationships to accomplish tasks
Accountable to generate accurate documentation at the direction of Electrical Engineers, Airworthiness Personnel, Laboratory Technicians
Accountable to maintain a perspective of constant learning
Accountable to keep track of assignments and prioritize tasks at the discretion of the Engineering Manager
Accountable to effectively manage work and school balance
Accountable to participate in department improvement initiatives

Physical Requirements
Approximately 80% sitting and 20% standing/walking about in-door Company facilities.
Lift and Carry up to 40 lbs.
Use head and neck in static position, looking up/down and side-to-side.
Perform light lifting from floor, table and shelf.
Push and pull carts or mobile tables, loaded and unloaded.
Minimal: heavy lifting from floor or higher, bending, twisting, climbing, lifting arms above shoulders, kneeling.
Minimal: exposure to excessive noise, hazardous chemicals, hazardous equipment, uneven walking surfaces
Typing with computer and keyboard
Job Specifications
Education: Currently studying under a BSEE or BSCE at a 4-year university (Studying under a postgraduate degree is also acceptable)
Certifications: None required.
Experience:Currently enrolled in Junior level Engineering classes (300 level) or higher level with a minimum GPA of 3.0

Work hours are flexible and determined based on school schedule. Up to 20 hours per week during the school year with potential for more hours during breaks and in the summer.
Skills:
Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel).
Proficient organizational skills and the ability to prioritize according to urgency while remaining flexible to changing situations
Proficient communication skills; both verbal and written/grammar
Proficient analytical skills
Self-motivated
Must be detail oriented
Able to manage multiple, concurrent priorities
Proven track record of commitment to schoolwork
Coding (C or C++) experience within an IDE such as MS Visual C
Basic knowledge of software engineering preferred
On the job training of engineering tools, such as IBM DOORS, AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Altium will be provided.
