The Joint Tactical Ground Station (JTAGS) program within Northrop Grumman Defense Systems receives and processes data directly downlinked from the Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) constellation of satellites, including Defense Support Program (DSP) and Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) sensors, and other infrared satellite sensors. JTAGS then disseminates near-real-time warning, alerting and cueing information on ballistic missile launches and other tactical events of interest throughout the theater using multiple communications networks.

This position is for a Staff Systems Engineer to join our JTAGS team as a Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test ( SEIT) Lead . As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to leverage your expertise in systems engineering to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security of the JTAGS mission systems. You will collaborate with talented professionals from diverse backgrounds to solve complex technical challenges and drive innovation in support of our mission critical objectives. We cover a wide variety expertise within the systems engineering domain. This includes mission engineering, requirements, architecture, SW build development, integration and test, verification, cybersecurity, and more!

The SEIT Lead is responsible for directing the execution of the overall SEIT effort on the program. The SEIT Lead is also responsible for horizontal and vertical integration across all engineering elements of the program. The SEIT Lead ensures the integrity of engineering processes and timely development of core engineering work products. The SEIT Lead typically has Control Account Manager (CAM) responsibility, which comprises cost and schedule management for the SEIT work scope. The SEIT Lead interfaces with the Program Manager, Chief Engineer, Chief Architect, other IPT leads, as well as the customer.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure system technical compliance with the program Statement of Work (SOW), system requirements, and manage scope control of technical team.

  • Manage the vertical and horizontal technical integration throughout the product teams and program life cycle.

  • Support proposal development and new program acquisition efforts

  • Interpret statements of work assigned by program leadership.

  • Develop and execute to meet project budgets and schedules, including critical path management, Estimates-at-Completion (EACs), and workload forecasts.

  • Oversee configuration management of the overall Program Baseline

  • Coordinate between the technical leads, program manager, and customer to ensure the integrity and executability of the program technical baseline.

  • Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables for both systems and software engineering initiatives.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between system architecture, software development, and business objectives.

  • Perform in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 12 years of experience, a Master's degree with 10 years of experience or a PhD with 7 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related technical fields.

  • Experience with satellite communications ground systems and/or missile warning systems.

  • Brief internal and external customer leadership on progress of work assigned.

  • Experience leading technical teams.

  • Experience in systems development, integration, and test.

  • Demonstrated Multi-Disciplinary Engineering exposure (Software, Hardware, Cybersecurity) and strong ability to communicate cross-functionally.

  • Ability to work 100% on-site full-time in Colorado Springs, CO.

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance investigated within the last 5 years, with the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret/SCI approval/access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance a time of application, current and within scope, with the ability to obtain and maintain SCI approval/access.

  • Experience directly managing or leading engineering teams and strong cross-functional team leadership and communication skills.

  • Fluency with developing and executing project schedules.

  • Experience as a Control Account Manager (CAM).

  • In depth understanding of the Design, Manufacturing, and Test process.

  • Problem-solving experience in a team environment.

  • Experience leading design, production, and integration of complex systems.

  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience.

  • Experience leading the performance of technical tasks on schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in achieving results through managing people and understanding and management of internal processes and customer/supplier relationships.

  • Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities.

  • Ability to collaborate and achieve consensus when dealing with groups from diverse organizations and backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations.

  • Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner.

Salary Range: $147,700 - $221,500

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
