WSP USA Senior CADD Technician in Orlando, Florida

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior CADD Technician for our Orlando, FL office. This role provides high level technical design and CADD support, guidance, and oversight to ensure the production of designs and specifications to be used for planning, transportation, infrastructure, and technical services business lines. Responsibilities involve providing support for and overseeing CADD designs on various multi-site/phase construction projects of moderate to larger scale, scope, and/or complexity. Ensures that design phase deliverables including plans and profiles, models, sections, details, models, and material lists accurately portray the results of surveys and analyses, and articulate data and perspective to project leadership. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, accuracy, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Supervise work product compiled and drafted from the physical work site, surveys, structural concepts, blueprints, schematics, data, verbal or written specifications, technical drawings, rough sketches, diagrams, and other matrices to support drafting and design activities for single, multi-phase, or multi-site project work.

  • Coordinate 3D computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) (Microstation Open Roads Designer) work product and work closely with engineers and project managers to resolve design details or discrepancies, and to prepare drawings which require a high degree of precision on projects of moderate- to large-scale, complexity, and/or scope.

  • Oversee quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise CADD work, measurements, documentation, analysis, and portrayal of incoming and existing data.

  • Perform professional drafting and design support and oversee work to verify site characteristics, validate, and sign off on the authenticity of work product.

  • Ensure standard practices to provide technical design assistance and guidance that accounts for the proper illustration, fit form, and function using geometric dimensioning, tolerance and quantity calculations, while ensuring the construction and maintainability of designs according to design standard specifications and code requirements.

  • Acts as a lead consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution; may serve as the only Drafting/Design Support resource on a project or assist in overseeing Drafting/Design Support activities for projects of a moderate/large scope and complexity within a district.

  • Assist with development and scoping of medium-to large-sized or projects.

  • Ensure compliance with guidelines and project-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of any data collection, database, documentation, and the management of a digital library of drafting and design support documents in various file types.

  • Assure plans adhere to city code, state and federal regulations.

  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, clients, communities, subcontractors, and technical staff in a confident and professional manner.

  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.

  • Actively engage in support for business development activities.

  • Remain current in latest drafting and design support practices, methods, procedures, subject matter, and techniques.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in closely related discipline (or equivalent experience.)

  • 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in discipline with prior drafting and design support experience.

  • Experience with both public and private sector work (e.g. state, city, county, utility districts, and private land development)

  • Experience supporting project managers and serving as deputy project manager.

  • Advanced proficiency with drafting and design support principles, practices, process, methods and techniques.

  • Advanced proficiency with relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience with technical computations and calculations involving the application of geometry and mathematical concepts, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate standards or regulations.

  • Proficiency with coordinating with clients, regulatory and resource agencies, communities, and technical staff required.

  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.

  • Highly capable self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from research, data collation, calculations, statistical analysis and identifying the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.

  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
