Job Description:

• The Technician-level position as a Machinist in the Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop operates a wide range of machine tools in the precision fabrication from aerospace-grade metals of prototype / development parts and assemblies, in support of internal customers for research and development projects and contracted programs.

• The manually or numerically controlled equipment used will require competency in Lathe, Mill, Press, Shear, Band Saw, and Grinder(s) operations.

• Requested tasks are verified and evaluated with the Manager and test requester and scheduled in an environment where there are often competing and conflicting needs to be resolved.

• Job status is reported and reviewed as required with the manager.

• The selected candidate will report directly to the Supervisor of the Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop (MEMS) as part of the Structural & Environmental Lab inside of the Technology Labs and Services Organization within the Engineering and Technology Department for LM Missiles and Fire Control.

  Required Experience:

  • Must have a minimum 4 years Technical Fabrication experience in:

  • a prototype/development environment

  • with experience in metal fabrication

  • with experience in mechanical assembly

  • with experience in composites fabrication while working in a teaming environment.

  • Must have at least 1 year of experience in Fabrication of basic Steel & Aluminum Alloys using:

  • Knee Mill

  • Band Saw

  • Manual Lathe

  • Basic Hand-Powered Metal Cutting.

  • Must be able to work a flex-schedule, overtime, evenings, weekends, etc., and the position will require candidate to work onsite, daily.

  • Capable of deconflicting scheduling conflicts with customers and possess the ability to multi-task and prioritize projects as needed.

  • Proficient in computing within a Windows-based MS Office-suite centered environment for communication, scheduling, data processing, and basic data transfer.

  • High School diploma, or equivalent experience/combined education, with additional specialized technical training equivalent to a technical Associate degree and/or demonstrated ability to perform assigned technical tasks and 4 years or more of experience.

  Desired Skills:

  • Desired - 1-2 years of experience with Computer Measuring Machining (CMM)

  • Desired - 2-4 years of experience with Metal Cutting / Machining - Ferrous / Non-Ferrous

  • Desired - Knowledge of CNC machines and software, CATIA, CREO, Pro E, and G-code programing.

  • Desired - GD&T, Mil-Spec Standards

  • Desired - Advanced working knowledge with various metals, layout, cutting, bending, forming.

  • Desired - Working knowledge from concept design into product development.

  • Desired - Ability to communicate through development preform guidance of working projects and tasking individuals.
