Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Field Operations Manager, NYAP’s Community Service Coordinator (CSC ) performs community outreach, coordinates community activities, develops community relationships, liaises with community contacts and expands community social service partners within a region. The CSC will provide social, legal, medical, mental health, and other services to released unaccompanied children per Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) requirements. CSCs must have outstanding communication skills, project management experience, knowledge of community programs and referral process, familiarity with ORR population needs, and an aptitude for connecting with people. CSCs must have a working understanding of NYAP/ORR Policies and Procedures and an understanding of the HS/PRS process. CSCs must possess knowledge of local community social services and working with immigrant populations. Additionally, CSCs must be knowledgeable of family preservation, kinship care, and general child welfare.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform community outreach within a designated region to engage local and community partners to provide post release services (PRS) to minors in the following areas: Placement Stability and Safety, Parenting, Immigration Proceedings, Guardianship, Legal Services, Education, Medical Services, Individual Mental Health Services, Family Stabilization/Counseling, Substance Abuse, Gang Prevention, Trafficking Victim Assistance Programs (TVAP), Aspire, and other services as needed or required.

  • Actively coordinate community activities, develop community relationships, and liaise with community contacts.

  • Encourage community social service partners to align with ORR requirements and PRS services provision.

  • Communicate with ORR care providers and NYAP’s HS/PRS staff to find services for children released from ORR care.

  • Plan, organize, and manage outreach activities for increased awareness of needed services within a designated region.

  • Collect data to evaluate impact of services and evaluate opportunities for improvement and growth.

  • Work with Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Coordinators to assist child victims of human trafficking by connecting to services and linking children to local and National agencies or community partners for needed resources.

  • Work alongside OTIP providers including supporting TVAP and Aspire Child and Youth Services Program.

  • Ensure excellence and best practices in documentation, completion of reports, and timely uploads.

  • Have a case management approach that assesses, plans, facilitates, and advocates for unaccompanied children and their sponsors using knowledge of social services and human services.

  • Follow all ORR guidelines and policy requirements.

  • Align with NYAP’s core values.

  • Reports into HS/PRS Field Operations Manager

  • Perform other additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 21 years old.

  • Bachelor’s degree in the behavioral sciences, human services or social services fields or a bachelor’s degree in other related fields.

  • Knowledge of local and national community social services, human trafficking agencies, resources for victims of human trafficking and working with immigrant populations.

  • Knowledge of social services and ORR referral process and required PRS services.

  • Prior experience with ORR HS/PRS preferred.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Proficient in using the internet and related computer programs and Evolv.

  • Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries, and C/ANs check.

  • Willingness to work flexible and non-traditional hours in the service of persons served.
