Marriott Vacations Worldwide Assoc Director Accounting in Orlando, Florida

Position Summary

As a member of Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corporation’s (MVWC) professional accounting staff, the Associate Director, Shared Services contributes general accounting knowledge and interfaces with all functional areas at corporate and at the sites. The Associate Director generally works with limited supervision to manage all accounting and reporting processes including, but not limited to contract sales, revenue recognition, product cost, reacquired accounting, and royalty expense. The Associate Director works to ensure that all entries are proper recorded and reconciled related to these processes. The Associate Director also maintains technical accounting policies and procedures in the production of timely, consistent, and accurate reporting in alignment with established schedules. The Associate Director collaborates with designated business partner roles with all functional areas at corporate as well as the sites and also serves as a primary liaison with audit staff from both an internal and external capacity.

Expected Contributions

Develops operating plans and workable business processes for own department in alignment with function strategy.

Manages larger business processes and/or projects, setting priorities and measurable objectives, monitoring and reporting on the process, progress and results. Typically influences work of cross-functional or extended teams.

Responds to, solves and makes decisions on business requests that have broader department impact and/or moderate risk. Presents alternative solutions to business issues by leveraging the broader organization.

Works to enhance the organization’s capabilities through effective staffing and development of others by:

  • using appropriate MVWC interviewing tools to hire the best people available from inside or outside

  • Oversees the period close journal entry and reporting processes and ensures the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of reported results

Reviews and approves reconciliations of various balance sheet accounts on a period / quarterly basis and ensures that any discrepancies are reported through the MIP-66 process and resolved in a timely manner.

Prepare complex calculations through new or existing technology to facilitate the accounting process. (e.g., FRS Engine, PC Models, Royalty calc, etc.).

Prepares, reviews, and communicates financial and other information to senior management, and executive committee members.

Review and analyze financial results for the long-range plan, yearly business plan and forecast, as well as required sub-schedules. Make recommendations to senior leadership team on opportunities and exposures upon consolidation of final product.

Partner with Financial Accounting and Reporting to supply meaningful cash flow schedules and provide support when necessary.

Coordinate all internal and external corporate audit requests and processes including audit schedules, analysis, and resolution of audit problems, as required.

Manage and review corporate accounting variance analysis on a period and quarterly basis for senior management. Provide explanations to senior leadership regarding major variances.

Work closely with the Assistant Vice President, Corporate Accounting Services to ensure all guidelines are met.

Develops and fosters strong working relationships with VPs, Directors, and Managers in Business Partner areas to ensure accounting and business needs are met.

Manages and delegates special projects as requested including analysis of various accounts and inquiries from senior management.

Prepare quarterly disclosures and support schedules for inclusion in the 10-Q.

Identify, document, and coordinate resolution of A&L reconciliation issues.

Identify areas to improve efficiency in the accounting and analysis functions.

Performs analysis of various accounts and responds to inquiries from senior management.

Promotes employee morale; develops good working relationships with other departments for greater efficiencies and synergy.

Help lead initiatives to integrate additional accounting and finance opportunities to the team to ensure the smooth transition of workflow as well as streamlining the work to be more efficient and informative.

Readily critiques own behavior to acknowledge mistakes and improve future leadership performance and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge.

Performs other duties as appropriate.

Candidate Profile

Education:

▪ BS/BA in Accounting or Finance; CPA or MBA preferred

Experience:

▪ Minimum 7 years of finance or accounting experience

Skills and Attributes:

▪ Proven analytical skills including the ability to reconcile accounts and explain variances

▪ Ability to work under pressure in a deadline-oriented environment; able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize

▪ Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral. Must be able to communicate results to senior management

▪ Ability to be detail-oriented with proven organizational skills

▪ Ability to adapt to changes in systems and processes as necessary

Technical Skills:

▪ Proficiency in PC-based applications, including Excel, Word and MS Access

▪ PeopleSoft experience preferred
