Utah Valley University is seeking a GEAR UP Assistant Director! GEAR UP Utah is a college-readiness program that assists low-income students to successfully graduate from high school and be prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education.

 

The Assistant Director will provide opportunities for leadership growth by working to support a committed and diverse staff; assist counselors and administrative staff with implementing the program within federal regulations; provide development and guidance to staff and partners; work to build relationships with school, college, and community entities; evaluate program and federal reports with data coordinator and contract consultants; and be a liaison for the university and GEAR UP Utah.

 

Summary of Responsibilities

 

• Leadership - Act in place of Director when needed. Assist Director in helping personnel accurately interpret and implement grant objectives. Supervise and provide program guidance for GEAR UP counselors, recruitment specialists, and administrative staff.

• Program Development - Design curriculum and programs to support the objectives of the grant and the needs of students, parents, and the community. Identify, develop, and maintain first-year college support services in the high schools. Assist in the development and implementation of the financial literacy program. Assist GEAR UP regions in the planning and execution of summer bridge programs, credit recovery programs, and statewide college tours. Also includes rigorous coursework planning including concurrent enrollment efforts.

• Professional Development - Provide professional development, program guidance, and trainings to support staff. Coordinate staff and statewide meetings. Identify professional development needs and develop implementation plans. Visit personnel, students and families in schools, and other locations.

• Relationship Management - Assist in managing relationships and needs of school, district, and state agencies. Represent GEAR UP at college, school, district, state, and national events. Attend the annual GEAR UP National Conference and other pertaining yearly conferences. Liaison with Human Resources; coordinate job descriptions, hiring and pay scales for GEAR UP Utah positions.

• Evaluation & Data Tracking - Assist with program evaluation activities. Manage and provide direction for tracking of student and evaluation data. Assist and maintain program data sharing agreements with state, district or school agencies. Interact with and provide feedback to our data-tracking professional consultants. Support the other Assistant Director in the implementation of the cost-share tracking system.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a directly related field and two years' experience related to the Summary of Duties; OR a combination of education and/or experience totaling eight years.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in counseling, psychology, education, social science, or a related field or a related field.

Multilingual.

• Knowledge of working with college student populations, academic counseling, high school student retention and graduation strategies, college-readiness. Strategies, and first-generation college student preparation.

• Strong commitment to social and racial justice.

• Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Office, Teams, texting platfo ms, and social media.
