JOB DESCRIPTION:This position at the Nathan Kline Institute (NKI) involves working within a research enterprise by serving as an integral component of a human research protection program.The incumbent is required to maintain an understanding of IRB regulations to help ensure the continued success of the NKI IRB. The incumbent is responsible for educating research teams on the proper conduct and ethical treatment of research participants and research data. Responsibilities include assisting with timely processing of protocol submissions, maintaining IRB files, tracking metrics of IRB performance, and coordinating IRB meetings. Job duties also include documentation of IRB minutes per federal guidelines and knowledge and awareness of all guidelines associated with minimal risk research and IRB minutes documentation. The incumbent must also be prepared to interface with research projects conducted under guidelines for clinical research and FDA requirements under the supervision of the IRB director or designee.This position permits up to 50 % of schedule to be worked remotelyJOB DUTIES:• Prepare and modify documents including correspondence, reports, drafts, memos, and emails.• Maintain IRB database.• Schedule and coordinate meetings and appointments for managers or supervisors in administration• Prepare agendas for meetings and distribute minutes of meetings.• Attend monthly IRB Committee meetings.• Maintenance of the NKI education requirements for all research.• Prepare IRB Meeting Minutes • Advise researchers on the conduct of human subject research• Advising employees and volunteers related to training requirements necessary for the various forms of research positions held at NKI.• Maintaining billing spreadsheets of sponsored projects for IRB, as needed• Maintenance of Compliance Tracking forms• Conducting periodic internal audits of all IRB records.• Assisting with Accreditation process for the human research review boards, when pertinent• Other duties as assigned by the supervisorJOB QUALIFICATIONS:• Minimum BA or BS or equivalent background and experience, preferably in life, physical or social science.• Experience with research administration.• Working knowledge of ethical principles and regulatory information regarding the protection of human research participants (DHHS and FDA).• Understanding of the operational requirements related to the management and implementation of the IRB review process.• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication, problem solving and analytical skills necessary to quickly identify and synthesize salient features from a fast-paced discussion of highly technical broad-ranging information into a cohesive and well-written correspondence to researchers and other audiences. Ability to collect, analyze and incorporate additional technical information from a variety of sources into this process.• Excellent interpersonal skills, political acumen and tact needed to work with a wide variety of customers, including faculty members, research staff, students, IRB members and chair persons, with colleagues and managers, and with external parties such as government officials in a consistently professional and service-oriented manner.• Ability to work with an electronic IRB review system; guide or provide assistance to others using the system for IRB submission, review and approval.• Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality in dealing with protected information.Background Investigation/Justice Center Review Requirements:Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
