Purpose/Introduction

We are currently seeking a qualified individual to join our team as a Maintenance Mechanic at our Orange, TX Plant. The individual is expected to take initiative and to work equally independently or as a member of a team. A high degree of reliability, dedication, and intelligence is necessary to perform this job. Having a good attitude and taking pride in the job are also desirable. The primary role of this position is to maintain and improve the mechanical integrity of equipment to achieve safe, reliable, and incident-free operations.

Physical requirements for this position include climbing, bending, lifting, kneeling, pushing, pulling and performing a wide range of physical activities while working at various heights. May require work in confined spaces. #HPCP

Responsibilities

  • Follows safe work practices, basic department procedures and contributes to a safe work culture.

  • Complies with health, safety, and environmental policies.

  • Performs testing, preventive, emergency, and repair maintenance work.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical equipment.

  • Examines equipment for defects in operation, secures and dismantles equipment.

  • Operates a forklift, JLG, scissor lift, and other types of mobile equipment.

  • Removes, repairs, installs and aligns mechanical rotating equipment.

  • Performs threaded and flanged pipe fit-ups, installation and removal of piping systems, and equipment isolation blinds.

  • Operates hydraulic and pneumatic power tools.

  • Works with combination end wrench, socket wrench, pipe wrench, spud wrench, hammer wrench, torque wrenches, hammers, wedges, and similar equipment.

  • Works closely with Operations and Reliability teams on process troubleshooting and repairs of equipment.

  • Confirm time and complete all work orders in SAP.

  • Work with planners to update equipment BOM stores stock and non-stores stock items.

  • Review and update maintenance equipment procedures.

  • Work with PM coordinator and the training coordinator to create new equipment maintenance procedures.

  • Participate in JSA and PSSR walk-downs.

  • Prepare seal failure check sheet and associated documentation required to send seals out for repair.

  • Works closely with Planning group to be sure parts are available for jobs in order to keep workflow productive.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED.

  • At least 5 years of applicable experience.

  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • Understanding of safety issues in a hazardous environment.

  • Experience with the repair of compressors, pumps, injection pumps, gearboxes, and cooling fans

  • Proficiency in laser alignment techniques.

  • Capability to identify different bearing types, bearing use, proper installation of bearings, and bearing application.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical seals, flush plans and seal failure analysis and demonstrate ability to perform pump and compressors repair, overhaul, and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to read equipment prints, field drawings, seal drawings, secure information from OEM manuals, and proficiency with precision measurement tools (rules, micrometers, dial calipers, etc.).

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.

  • A self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to prioritize work to align with goals.

  • Ability to establish respectful relationships with team members at all levels.

  • Ability to meet deadlines.

  • Satisfy requirements of Federal, State, Local, ANSI, ASME, API regulations, NEC codes/practices.

  • Basic computer skills for email, calendar, and online training.

  • Pass forklift, scissor lift, and JLG evaluations after completion of training.

  • Pass a physical exam to operate mobile equipment.

  • Ability to work overtime and shift work schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Machine shop experience operating a lathe and vertical mill.

  • Microsoft Office and SAP experience.

  • Completion of a Certified Training Program.

  • NCCER or NCCCO certification.

  • Experience with PSV testing and repair.
