City of Oneonta Maintenance Workers in ONEONTA, New York
JOB POSTING ONE VACANCY: MAINTENANCE WORKER (DPW - PARKS, BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS CREW) The City of Oneonta Department of Public Works is seeking applications for a Maintenance Worker to be assigned primarily with the Parks, Buildings and Grounds Crew. 2025 base salary is $40,500. Any applicant meeting the minimum requirements as stated on the vacancy notice is welcome to apply. Preference in selection for this particular vacancy may be given to candidates with landscaping, tree trimming, gardening, and related experience. MAINTENANCE WORKERS GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs a variety of semi-skilled mechanical, construction, or maintenance work; does related work as required. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is semi-skilled work involving independent performance of construction, maintenance and repair work.Employees in this class may cover all areas of the maintenance field, or they may concentrate in one or a few areas.The work may involve the part-time operation of a truck, automobile or other automotive equipment.The work is performed under varying degrees of supervision depending upon the assignment, and is reviewed by immediate observation, by periodic or spot checks, by another step in the process and upon completion. EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only) Performs semi-skilled work in masonry, carpentry, electrical or painting operations; Repairs windows, doors, floors, walls and other parts of buildings; Mixes and lays cement and concrete for walks, steps, floors and foundations; Repairs, rebuilds and refinishes recreation equipment; Performs installation and repair work on a municipal water and/or sewage system; Installs and repairs general plumbing equipment, such as sinks, toilets and baths; Plows and shovels snow when necessary; Operates trucks, automobiles, air compressors and other motorized equipment May provide occasional office coverage, performing rudimentary clerical tasks such as answering phones, and operating standard office equipment. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of building and general maintenance and repair practices; good knowledge of the practices and techniques of multiple standard trades; ability to learn and use HVAC energy management systems; ability to learn and perform computer functions; mechanical aptitude; dependability; mutual dexterity; good physical condition. ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE : Either: a)Two (2) years of experience in either general building maintenance, heavy construction or building trades work; or b)Two (2) years of experience in one or more of the standard trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, or electrical; or c)An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in (a) and (b). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS: Candidates must be eligible for an operators license issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles at time of application.Possession of the license at time of appointment is required and must be maintained for the duration of employment.
