What you'll do The Administrative Supervisor Nursing will work Full Time, Nights provides consistent on-site administrative coverage for the hospital and is responsible for coordinating the operations of the hospital on his/her assigned shift. Is responsible for coordinating patient placement consistent with care needs and resources, staffing reallocations and patient flow, accepting all patients meeting our capacity criteria. Assists with direct and indirect care as needed. Functions as a consultant and educator for all inpatient staff including Nursing, ED, Bed Management, Laboratory, Radiology and Pharmacy. Supervises the shift Staffing Assistant, providing direction as needed. Functions as the on-site administrator, addressing patient and staff complaints, media inquires and emergency preparedness. Establishes and maintains a leadership presence in order to provide administrative and clinical support to all staff. Maintains collegial relationships with the interdisciplinary team to promote optimum care of patients. Evaluates staffing levels and patient care acuity and negotiates staff allocation decisions to match patient care requirements and measured by managerial observation and feedback from unit resource nurses. Provides consultation to Bed Management Services for coordination of patient acceptance and appropriate patient placement to the unit where staffing resources are best matched to meet patient needs as measured by managerial observation and co-worker feedback. Follows defined procedures and policies while exercising judgment on issues as measured by feedback from co-workers and Managers. Provides leadership to organizational staff in all departments on assigned shift and appropriately exercises authority to act on behalf of the Managers as measured by co-workers and managerial feedback. Participates in Professional Practice activities and educational offerings as measured by documentation forwarded to manager. Participates in interdisciplinary managerial meetings that includes the Emergency Department, Inpatient Nursing, Perioperative services, Laboratory Services, Radiology services to ensure all issues are addressed regarding patient management as measured by manager feedback. Provides meal coverage to units with one RN, and covers for other staff as needed for both clinical and clerical support as measured by co-worker feedback. Provides clinical assistance to units as requested and to meet the demands of patient care for periods of the shift as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation. Collaborates effectively with intradepartmental co-workers, with members of the interdisciplinary team, with patients and the public as reflected by staff and patient feedback. Participates in organizational initiatives such as committees, JCAHO preparation, etc. as requested and as documented. Role models effective relationship building on assigned shift and responds appropriately to complaints as measured by feedback from patients, families and nursing staff. Observes and guides staff behaviors to help improve customer service relationships when addressing patient / family problems as measured by feedback and documentation from Nurse Managers and on the 24 hour Nursing Report. Supervises and oversees functioning of Staffing Assistant for assigned shift (as reflected by input to performance appraisal) and assigns those duties in her absence as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation. Promotes appropriate use of material resources such as rental equipment and strives to limit waste as measured by supervisory observation. Demonstrates effective time management skills as measured by supervisory observation and co-worker feedback. Provides clinical and educational support to staff. Participates in performance improvement activities and routine documentation reviews Provides regular effective mini-educational sessions with clinical staff as planned with OD and as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation. Collaborates with Managers, acute care staff, OD and Risk Management concerning process improvement opportunities as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation. Functions as a resource on current departmental and organizational information as measured by supervisory observation and co-worker feedback. Leads change processes as requested and provides follow up monitoring and remedial action as measured by co-workers feedback and managerial observation. Offers and receives feedback on own performance, setting appropriate goals for practice and professional growth as measured by supervisory observation and co-worker feedback. Ensures that patient information is kept private and confidential 100% of the time as measured by patient and co-worker feedback and managerial observation. Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice. Provides proof of current BLS validation to supervisor. Maintains relevant clinical competencies and knowledge base as reflected in Continuing Education Records and supervisor observation. Completes required credentialing according to departmental policy by providing documented evidence of completion to supervisor. Provides to supervisor evidence of completion of PC-based age-specific competency education for targeted age groups within the previous calendar year. Participates in educational activity related to job function annually and provides documented evidence of attendance or activity to supervisor. Demonstrates clinical problem-solving ability through written exemplar, patient/family feedback, co-worker report or direct managerial observation. Demonstrates operational problem-solving ability through written exemplar, co-worker report or direct managerial observation. Contributes to the body of nursing knowledge through use of research and participation in professional practice committees and organizations as measured by portfolio review and managerial observation. Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager. What we need from you Education 2 Year / Associate Degree in Nursing required 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or completion within one year from date of hire, preferred Master’s degree in healthcare related field with an additional 2 years of below experience may be considered. All RN’s hired and do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor’s prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire. BSN must be completed within 10 years. RN’s licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement. Experience A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in nursing beginning at the staff nurse level with assumption of positions of increasing responsibility, required License/Certification: NYS Licensure as a Registered Nurse, required BLS and ACLS must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.
